The Chicago Sun-Times' newest daily feature section, entitled "The Daily Splash" made its debut in today's newspaper. The new section will appear each Monday-Friday and cover subjects such as entertainment, gossip, fashion, and society events. The Sun-Times has lined up 30 Chicago celebrities -- including famous Chicago actors, comedians, singers, musicians, politicians, sports executives, and more -- who will each rotate at writing a column for the Daily Splash section. |

Howard Shapiro, the longtime Chairman of Chicago-based television corporation Weigel Broadcasting Company, passed away today from pneumonia at the age of 86. He had been the guiding force behind Weigel Broadcasting since the mid-1960's. |

The parent company of the Chicago Sun-Times, Wrapports, LLC, today announced its purchase of the alternative weekly newspaper, the Chicago Reader. Wrapports also acquires the Chicago Reader's web-properties, ChicagoReader.com and StraightDope.com. Terms of the transaction, which closed late yesterday, have not been disclosed, although the purchase price is said to be just under $3 million. |

The eclectic show, now funded by Chicago Public Media and created in the WBEZ-FM studios for the first time, has made six new episodes, which will start to be heard regularly, starting Wednesday. |

Rod Blagojevich will be riding on Chicago buses after all. Earlier this week, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) rejected advertising from Merlin Media radio station WIQI-FM/FM News 101.1. The ads for the interior and exterior of Chicago buses, featuring jokes made at the expense of convicted felon & former IL Governor Blagojevich, were turned down by a CTA supervisor, claiming they were "offensive." Now, that decision has been reversed and the ads will soon be appearing on & in Chicago buses. |
