WGN-TV announced today that it has becomes the first television station in Chicago to launch a SmartTV site. Simultaneously, WGN-TV has unveiled a large group of new single subject mobile apps.
With consumer televisions merging even more with Internet technology, WGN-TV is now using a new way of being seen anywhere there is an Internet-capable monitor, be it within Chicagoans' family rooms or anywhere they happen to be outside of their homes. WGN-TV's newly launched SmartTV website can be seen at
GoogleTV.WGNTV.com. The user will get the choice between selecting the smaller 720p view or the larger 1080p view. Once opened, the user can watch live streaming WGN television broadcasts, recent news stories, detailed weather news, read breaking news & sports headlines, and more.
The SmartTV websites were developed by Google, along with partners Sony, Intel and Logitech. Because it is primarily a Google product, it works on all smart phones/tablets using Google's Android operating system, in addition to working on Internet-capable televisions and computers. WGN-TV's SmartTV site is available as an app in the Google Play store for Android devices.
To stay even more connected to WGN-TV viewers on the go, the station is launching over a dozen new apps. The apps are available now for Android, and coming soon for iPhones.
