WLUP-FM's spokesmodel, Tricia the 2011 Loop Rock Girl, is now known as the 2012 Loop Rock Girl. Her one year contract to be the station's spokesmodel, which was set to expire next month, will be extended through the end of this year.
For the last seven years, WLUP-FM has started a contest in late winter to find a new female spokesmodel, eventually settling on one winner in the spring. That winner receives a one year contract (most recently paying $75,000), as well as represents the station at events and on marketing materials until the following spring. On May 13, 2011, Tricia Van Der Slik won the title
of Loop Rock Girl. She was the seventh person to become a Loop Rock Girl since the station started the contest.
However, instead getting ready to pass the title on to a new winning contestant in less than a month, WLUP-FM has decided to hold off on the next contest. The classic rock station is instead looking at running the contest at the end of the year, to have the next Loop Rock Girl start at or near the beginning of the new year. It will be the first Loop Rock Girl contest done by new station owners Merlin Media LLC.
All this means Tricia gets to continue on for at least six more months as The Loop's spokesmodel. She becomes the first-ever two-year Rock Girl since the role was created in 2005.
