WLS-AM/89 WLS is holding a new contest called "The Next 89 WLS Talk Star." The winner of the contest will gain their very own live two-hour talk show on the radio station, among other prizes.
The station is looking for contestants to give quick auditions, showing they can be the next great talk show host. The one grand prize winner will gain the chance to host his/her own two-hour weekend talk show on WLS-AM (date & time to be determined), studio headphones that they can keep after their show, a limousine ride to & from their home to the WLS-AM downtown studios, and a four-day/three-night vacation for two to Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico.
The contest bears similarities to WSCR-AM's
recent "Score Search" for a new talk show host, with the big differences being that the WLS-AM winner only gets a one-time show, not a reoccurring show, but the WLS-AM winner also gets other prizes along with the show.
WLS-AM wants contestants to create an audition that consists of a 10 second introduction and a monologue of no longer than 90 seconds, for a maximum total time length of 100 seconds (one minute, 40 seconds). Contestants must then submit that 100 second MP3 on the WLS-AM website at this link
HERE, along with a brief bio of themselves. All entries must be received by Sunday, August 5th. Contestants must be at least 21, live in the Chicagoland area, and have never before been paid to be on the radio. They are looking for newcomers only.
All entries will be judged by Cumulus Media Chicago executives. Entries will be judged on voice quality, creativity, and overall style. On August 6th, the judges will select their 10 semi-finalists, whose entries will then be posted up on the WLS-AM website. (Semi-finalists will also be asked for additional information and a current photo of themselves.) Station listeners and website visitors will then vote for their favorites. The five semi-finalists with the most votes by August 17th will then move on to the finals.
The finals will be held live on the WLS-AM airwaves from a remote location on either Tuesday, August 21st or Wednesday, August 22nd (exact date/time/location still to be finalized). The finalists will get one last chance to impress the judges and the audience at that event. The winner will be chosen by the judges, with input by the listeners via a text voting system.
