WGN-TV To Hold Their 11th Annual 'Back-To-School Kids Fair'

This Friday morning, WGN-TV will be holding their annual "Back-To-School Kids Fair." This yearly event is free and will feature health screenings, safety tips, food, fun events for the kids, and everything parents need to get their little ones ready for the school year ahead.

The 11th annual "WGN-TV Back-To-School Kids Fair" will take place on Friday, August 10th, from 6:00am-9:00am. It will be held in the large lot of the WGN-TV Studios, which is located at 2501 W. Bradley Place in Chicago.

As they do each year, the WGN Morning News team will be broadcasting live from the event happening right outside their walls. All of WGN-TV's morning news talents will be on hand to meet visitors and have some fun.

Just as there have been in years past, there will be a great deal of entertainment on hand. On the schedule this year are live performances from the cast of "Cirque Shanghai," as well as from event regulars, the Jesse White Tumblers and South Shore Drill Team. Greeting visitors and posing for photographs will be team mascots from the Chicago Fire (Sparky), Chicago Wolves (Skates), Chicago White Sox (South Paw), and the McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade (Teddy Turkey). The Chicago Cubs will have their trolley at the event, the Chicago Sky's van will be there, and the Chicago Blackhawks will have a prize booth set up. WGN-TV's booth will feature the "Wheel of Fun" with chances to win prizes from numerous sponsors. The Brookfield Zoo and Shedd Aquarium will both have booths where children can learn new things about the animal kingdom. The StoryBus will have some interactive fun for kids. My Gym will have a padded area set up to lead kids in some fun fitness activities. There will be a pair of inflatable bouncers set up, balloon animal artists, face painting, free haircuts for students, free music lessons, and much more going on at the event, as well.

Those looking for some food, snacks, and/or refreshments can visit the booths by Dunkin Donuts, Connie's Pizza, Pepsi, Moo & Oink, and Dominick's.

The "WGN-TV Back-To-School Kids Fair" wants to be more than just fun & games, though. Many companies have donated school supplies, which will be on hand for students in need. There will be physicians on site from Resurrection/St. Joseph Hospital, who will perform free back-to-school physical exams and health screenings for those who are able to bring their medical records with them. The Chicago Department of Health will be providing free immunizations, the Chicago Dental Hygienists' Society will provide free dental checks, Advance Vision Center will provide free vision screenings, and the City Clerk's Office will be offering free fingerprinting. The Illinois Secretary of State will have a booth set up, answering questions about child seat safety. The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago's booth will provide first aid lessons.

Those wishing to be reminded about the event before it happens can send text the word FAIR to 97999 to get a "Kids Fair" reminder sent to their cell phone.

WGN-TV has a lot of activities, both fun and educational packed into just three hours, so attendees are encouraged to get an early start. Also, even though this takes place outdoors, no pets are allowed.
