The Chicago Sun-Times and Gage Marine Services have partnered up on a unique promotion which will give free delivery of the Sun-Times newspaper to homes on Lake Geneva via the Lake Geneva Cruise Line's historic "Mail Jumper" tour boat. This will take place from this weekend through the end of summer.
Lake Geneva, WI is located just a short distance north of the Illinois-Wisconsin border. The small resort city of a little over 7,000 people is located right on Geneva Lake. A great many Chicagoans have homes along the lake shore. This new partnership with Lake Geneva Cruise Line, a subsidiary of Gage Marine, and Sun-Times Media Group will reach many of the Chicagoans who have weekend/summer homes up there, or have relocated to the small town.
Lake Geneva Cruise Line's famous U.S. Mailboat Walworth carries on a long Lake Geneva tradition, which has been going on since the early 1870s. Every day of the week at 10:00am, the boat departs from the Riviera Docks in Lake Geneva, loaded with around 150 guests, the mail & newspapers for that day, a steady-handed ship captain, and brave mailpersons, who have to leap from the boat to the private docks and back again repeatedly. The delivery is not an easy task, as the boat is moving fairly fast and does not stop for the mailperson. The U.S. Mailboat's crew delivers mail to up to 60 homes around the lakefront daily. The Walworth's daily route is the only marine mail delivery of its type in the country.
Residences along Lake Geneva can now receive their free, hand-delivered Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, seven days a week, by way of the US Mailboat tour from today through Labor Day.
Those who live on Lake Geneva in Lake Geneva, WI and wish to receive the Chicago Sun-Times free of charge each day on their dock, need only to call Gage Marine/Lake Geneva Cruise Line's Ellen Burling at (262) 248-6206.
