Assistant Producer For Public Radio's Only Rock N' Roll Talk Show

Sound Opinions is a radio show where people who love music can come together. Whether you're an expert or just a casual fan, Sound Opinions is your source for smart and engaging music criticism and conversation. Each week, nationally respected rock critics Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis interview artists, talk about pop culture and music industry news. They review new record releases and give trends historical context. And because on Sound Opinions, "everyone's a critic," listeners are invited to join in the debate. We have an opening for an Associate Producer to join our team. This position will be producing content for the weekly broadcast and podcast episodes. Our future Associate Producer will generate story ideas, book guests, record, edit and mix audio, write scripts, provide support for hosts and archiving of material. This position works collaboratively with the show's Senior Producers and other Chicago Public Media teams.

Other duties will include:
- Produce and archive multi-media content for the Sound Opinions website and its partners
- Promote and engage the audience using various social media outlets
- Participate in the development of our live events. Which may include shooting video and audio recording, booking guests for the event, and coordinating with outside partners and venues
- Assist with the instruction of interns
- Participate in on-air fundraising and events as requested
- The Associate Producer will be required to work flexible schedule (occasional evening and weekends) to assist with tapings or special events as needed.

Skills and experience we are looking for:
- 2-3 years of professional media producing experience, preferably in the national public media sphere
- Digital audio editing skills using ProTools, Adobe Audition or Sony Vegas
- Clear and concise writing and communication skills
- Ability to create and package content for other media platforms (web, video) a huge plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of music and popular culture
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent training and professional experience

To manage the underwriting sales operation of WDCB Public Radio - including maintaining/prospecting key accounts and training/managing a team of Underwriting Sales Assistants. Also, to participate in growing the station as a whole.

Duties of Position:
- Maintain existing accounts.
- Develop underwriting sales prospects and close new sales agreements.
- Manage sales team of Underwriting Sales Assistants if applicable.
- Train and provide ongoing assistance to Underwriting Sales Assistants if applicable.
- Provide customer support and information for underwriting sales prospects.
- Maintain existing materials and developing new materials for underwriting sales operation.
- Process underwriting orders and keep appropriate records, including Contract.
- Work with client to develop wording of underwriting spot, as well as providing clients with invoice and Affidavit in a timely manner, and doing follow-up with client to ensure payment.
- Represent WDCB at community events, especially business functions.
- Maintain underwriting files (current lapsed sponsors and prospects), as well as appropriate correspondence.

Experience and Education:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two years in media sales or marketing/sales
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Five years in media sales, including two years in media sales management (may be concurrent)

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education and experience

Equipment & Working Conditions:
IBM compatible computer with Windows operating system running Microsoft Office applications, "laser writer" or "ink jet" printer, photocopy machine, presentation equipment, multi-telephone system, general office equipment.

Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm - occasionally early morning, late night and weekend duties, with extensive local travel and occasional national travel, must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Qualified instructor candidates must be technically and creatively proficient in radio or television broadcasting or website development or in one or more of the following areas: video and audio production, website (WordPress) development and content management, website marketing and statistics tracking and social media networking. Qualifications include:

The Director, On-Air Fundraising should have 4+ years marketing or television production experience. Pledge production/marketing experience is preferred.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be organized, detail oriented, have experience supervising professional staff, and be able to multi-task. A positive, goal, and team-oriented attitude is essential. Proficiency with computer programs is required. The ideal candidate will also have a working knowledge of line-production and state of the art production.

Coordinate the planning, production and execution of on-air fundraising campaigns, including, pledge fundraising spots and any pledge-related programming, the retail and inventory initiative, member and corporate special events and other marketing projects as determined.

- Plans, produces and executes WTTW11's On-Air Pledge drives with goals of driving broadcast income and increasing response rate and overall member base.
- Determines overall objectives and strategies for Pledge, including, but not limited to, the following:
    -- Involvement in programming decisions, scheduling of drive times and related activities (includes pre-tapes, premium shoots and roll-in/spot productions).
    -- Development of marketing strategies, financial goals and premium strategies.
    -- Scheduling staff and arranging special guest appearances.
- Determines Pledge budgets and participates in management of budget plan.
- Development of original programs and promotions, expanding reach to a more diverse audience and generating fundraising revenue.
- Coordinates the development of overall promotional plans including special on-air spots and Internet promotions.
- Schedules/trains pledge talent, producers, directors, other crew members and production volunteers.
- Plans and executes Member and Corporate events related to on-air pledge programming that increase member base and cultivate current constituency while simultaneously enhancing program experience.
- Oversees the research of promotional items for giveaways, contests and high-end premiums including managing WWCI's relationship with all outside promotional incentive partners.
- Works with Marketing Assistant to determine premium needs for on-air fundraising activities.
- Provides back-end analysis of all aspects of each Pledge effort and leverages those findings in future efforts.
- Produces on-air fundraising breaks for national use and distribution.
- Manages relationship with Fulfillment House.
