Kennedy-King is one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), which is improving student outcomes and ensuring greater academic and career success as part of Reinvention 7, a seven-year educational reform initiative.

Kennedy-King College, located at Halsted and 63rd streets on Chicago s South Side, serves more than 10,000 students in college credit, adult education, and continuing education courses. The Washburne Culinary Arts and Hospitality College to Careers (C2C) program is based at Kennedy-King. Kennedy-King College's campus also is home to WYCC-PBS Television and WKKC 89.3 FM radio station. Courses are also offered at Dawson Technical Institute, 3901 S. State Street, an occupational training center offering certificate and degree programs in various areas of construction.

Description:
- Assists in the development, research and writing of intellectual and creative content for various uses as determined by WYCC.
- Writes intellectual and creative content for programs in production at WYCC studios. Schedules and interviews subject matter experts for background and factual information. Conducts research on internet, at libraries, museums, historical archives and similar facilities.
- Accompanies staff Videographers to locations where video will be recorded and used in the production of packages and stories for broadcast, clients and City Colleges.
- Scans documents, logs footage and duplicates DVD s for inclusion in video packages for broadcast, clients and City Colleges.
- Provides content for WYCC.org and updates accordingly.
- Directs video editing sessions to ensure that production goals set by supervisors are met. Tasks include, but are not limited to time, picture and audio quality, subject matter and tone/mood of final product.
- Performs various duties as needed for WYCC events and productions, both broadcast and non-broadcast, including directing people to seats in a theatre, helping staff booths at trade shows, carrying equipment to video locations and other similar tasks during scheduled hours.
- Provides graphics, marketing and web site support for specialized assignments.
- Provides clerical and front office duties as assigned.
- Performs additional related assignments made by the Senior Producer.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in Television Production, Theater, Communication, Journalism, English or other appropriate field. Masters degree preferred. A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration based on the applicant's credentials.
- Two years of experience producing, writing, and producing video or web projects.
- Working knowledge of broadcast equipment, word processing programs, spreadsheet usage, and general computer skills.
- Knowledge of FCC regulations & federal/state laws governing broadcasting.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
- Demonstrated ability to use the internet for research.
- Excellent organizational skills.

The Illinois Policy Institute seeks a Manager of Media Relations to join its robust Media Relations operation. This position is based in Chicago, which is the third-largest media market in the U.S. The Manager of Media Relations will have the opportunity to work on a full-service, professional media relations operation that regularly places experts in Chicago and national news outlets.

The Manager of Media Relations will be responsible for managing and growing the Institute's relationships with Illinois-based and national media, which includes radio, newspaper, TV and online news outlets. This person must be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, knows or can quickly get to know the Illinois media landscape, and who can juggle multiple requests from news outlets at a time. The person who fills this role must be equally passionate about news and liberty. The ideal candidate recognizes that the news never sleeps, and possesses a natural enthusiasm for following all things news, politics and policy -- on or off the job.

This position is not a fit for journalism "refugees" who are seeking to exit the news industry in pursuit of a bigger paycheck or a 9-5 desk job. The person who fills this role must have a deep passion and interest in news and in liberty, and must view this position as an opportunity to play a new and exciting role in the news industry – not outside of it. The right candidate will be prepared to work with the same rigor and on the same news schedule as working journalists.

The Manager of Media Relations will report to the VP, Communications.

Responsibilities will include:
- Building relationships with the media, including strengthening existing Institute relationships and developing new relationships
- Assisting the VP of Communications in developing an integrated marketing communications plan for the Institute
- Copyediting Institute products, including press releases, newsletters and policy papers
- Maintaining all appropriate media contact lists and databases
- Placing opinion pieces and articles with top-level print outlets and securing interviews with staff on leading television and radio shows
- Writing/blogging for the Institute when appropriate
- Ensuring that Institute’s media resonance is properly tracked and measured
- Assisting with daily written and oral communication to media and general public
- Fielding phone calls from the media; pitching and booking interviews
- Tracking, updating and archiving all media coverage

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
- 3+ years related experience in communications, media relations, journalism, or public relations
- Superb written and oral communication skills, as well as editing skills
- Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task, set priorities, and follow through
- Solid understanding of the news cycle and how to effectively interact with reporters, editors and program directors
- High sense of urgency
- A commitment to the principles of limited government, personal responsibility and free enterprise
- Experience communicating about public policy issues preferred
- Some experience in a nonprofit and/or political setting preferred, but not required
- Illinois ties welcome, but not required
- A bachelor's degree
- Passion for news, politics and free market policy
- Proficiency in AP Style

WGN is seeking someone to act as Manager of Regional Sales for WGN-TV working in conjunction with national representative offices with the responsibility to maximize all national or regional sales revenue ensuring all financial goals are being met while developing and maintaining relationships with clients.

Participates in the development of a planning process that produces acceptable operating plans and budgets for the Department for submission to the Sales Director. Recommends to the Director of Sales the organizational structure and staffing needed to execute the operating plans of the division. To provide an environment that supports the management philosophy of the organization and that provides leadership to employees in contributing to the success of the organization. Assures the periodic comparison of performance/results against established standards/objectives so that corrective actions are taken to ensure that total results are in line with total objectives. Assists the various national representative (rep) firms through on-going evaluation of various areas including revenue growth, share increases, success at selling specials, pre-and-post-sell efforts, and attention to buyers' and Stations' needs. Develops sales goals and strategies to effectively meet those goals. Assists rep firms in preparing sales presentations of major events and specials by gathering data from various station sources and overseeing preparation and presentation. Packages available airtime, decides rates to be charged using Station’s commercial rate card as a guide and sell to national buyers. Develops and maintains direct relationship with agencies and clients to promote the Station. Supervises national sales assistant and assists in the training and developing of Station and rep firm sales personnel. Decisions directly affect the station's ability to meet the station’s revenue and market share goals and impact the station's image in the advertising community. Works under the general direction of the Director of Sales. Works on a day to day basis with station sales staff as well as national representative sales staff and management; has frequent telephone contact with sales reps, agencies and clients; and visits rep firm offices on a regular basis.

Requires bachelor's degree in advertising or marketing or equivalent related experience. Requires analytical and technical skills to analyze the markets, package, price, and sell available airtime. Must demonstrate knowledge of sales, research and agency operations to train, motivate, direct and evaluate the performance of staff and rep firm. Requires a thorough knowledge of the ratings strategies of each station and competing rep firms in the national markets. Must demonstrate effective negotiation, oral and written communication skills to communicate with and influence internal and external contacts. Requires the ability to analyze the market, set rates and direct national sales activity to meet established financial goals and market share.
