Amazing WGN-TV didn't decide on expanding the newscast for the extra hour from 10-11 AM, so they'd have news 9 hours straight, but I guess that would be total overkill on their end. Now Imagine Rachel Ray being sandwiched in between those newscasts.

Yeah, I'm not sure Rachel Ray's show is really going to fit between the newscasts. I would rather have WGN launch a local talk show along the lines of Windy City Live. They even could go a more 'serious' route along the lines of Donahue. Speaking of which, as talk show retreads go these days, Phil is free. Anyway, even if the last hour of the new WGN Morning News is something other than a traditional newscast, then it might be good from a promotional standpoint to hitch it to the successful morning franchise.

Regarding Steve Baskerville; he's been the constant in a ever-changing Ch2 news. I remember him surviving the Carol Marin experiment a few years back. He was still his positive-self during that too. More power to Steve Baskerville! Many many more years at CBS2.

Watts, I think Steve started at Channel 2 in 1989 and has been going strong there since.

This seems like a very good hire. Mr. Ivory appears to have a passion for meteorology, rather than hiring a "TV forecaster."

Too bad the hire was not more local... from this region or state... being more familiar with the geography of this area. UW-Madison, NIU, and UIUC for example all have excellent meteorology departments and programs. Or perhaps a hire from a market closer to Chicago.

I wonder how many applicants were interviewed/screened for this opportunity. Think there was a flood of applicants or WGN knew where they wanted to go? (contacts, networking, etc...)

Speaking of TV weather... how long has Steve Baskerville been with Ch. 2? Seems like forever. A rare silent, good, steady presence for the station!

The attraction of the Kelly & Michael/Regis & Kelly/Regis & Kathy Lee shows escape me. The first 20 minutes is lame talk about what each host did the night before (room cume and something I could not give a crap about) and the rest of the show is guests who spend about 3 minutes plugging their show/CD/Movie/Book and a couple of lame questions later it's over. I know their ratings are great, but the show is like cotton candy, a little too sweet with very little of anything else to make note of. I'll take the Channel 9 extra hour of shenanigans any day of the week and twice on Sundays!

I think a bomb will drop on WGN's morning ratings when Kelly and Michael moves to ABC7. No amount of silliness by Paul,Larry,or Robin will bring viewers to that 9-10am time slot.

WGN-TV starts at 4:00am, not 4:30am, so starting in September, those newscasts will be a full six hours long. After Demetrius Ivory joins, the early morning hours will probably be the same as they are now, which is a more traditional newscast, with less of the skits and silliness. The fun stuff tends to pick up more as the morning drags on.

Sounds like a good move. With the newscast being 5.5 hours, it makes sence to have two weather forecasters involved. Larz, your take, will the 4:30-6am block be more newsy than silly like the rest of the show is?
