This is an incredibly rare & special audio addition to this page. This month, May 2012, would have been Chicago media icon Studs Terkel's 100th birthday. As a salute to Studs Terkel, this is an interview of his from May 3rd, 1963 -- 49 years ago this month. The subject of this interview is a then little-known, 22 year-old folk singer named Bob Dylan, who had just finished recording and was about to release his second album, "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan." This is the complete, unedited interview from WFMT-FM, running just over one hour. It features Stud Terkel's sharp & unique interview style and gives the listener a rare glimpse into the mind of a very young Bob Dylan. The singer/songwriter talks about the real meaning behind some of his early songs, including the often-misinterpreted "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall." Also included with no editing are a handful solo acoustic songs sung by Dylan for Terkel, including one of the first-ever known performances of "Boots of Spanish Leather." (Running time: 64:51)
