Q101 Jocks Say Goodbye - July 14, 2011

One year ago today, July 14, 2011, WKQX-FM/Q101 had its final day on the air. The station had been sold, the new owners were given an agreement to take over the station early, and the format was being flipped on July 15th -- first as an Adult Contemporary two-week stunt and then to a new kind of news format. On its last day on the air, the Q101 jocks were able to say their final farewells to their audience. The following aircheck tracks feature many of those parting words, first from morning show hosts Sherman & Tingle, followed by midday host Electra, and then afternoon drive host Tim Virgin. The last audio clip technically comes from the wee hours of July 15th, as the last Q101 show aired, "Local 101" went well past its scheduled stop time of Midnight and continued on for over an hour. The show featured many of the past Q101 hosts, had many tearful (and in some cases, drunken) goodbyes, and ended with the song that started the Alternative music on Q101 in 1992, The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love."
