With the
recent demise of FM News 101.1, here is a look back to the very first ever news broadcast on the station, before it even officially launched. After the Q101 format came to an end in mid-July 2011, Merlin Media started a less than two-week stunt period, where it aired Robert Murphy in the morning and a Hot AC music format the rest of the day, called "101-1 FM New." As a test run, at just before 2:00pm on July 20th, the music stopped for approximately six minutes and the news team did its first ever live news broadcast, before returning to the music. Heard on this first test broadcast are news anchors Dave Williams and JoAnn Genette. Also heard are traffic reporter Jill Urchak, news reporter Jeff McKinney, entertainment reporter Sarah Jersild, and music news reporter Janine Schaults. This audio clip shows off the original concept of the station, which was to be a news/commentary station where the news anchors could do more than just read the headlines, with the target audience being Women 25-54.
