WSDM Jingles 1970

This audio clip (courtesy of Marty Zivin) was originally posted on the CRM Audio Page in the Spring of 2010, but with the salute to WSDM-FM happening this week, it seemed right to post it here once again. The following clip is a pair of jingles from Chicago's WSDM-FM 98 from around 1970. (Running time: 0:27)

WRCX - Freak's Rock Report 10/23/98

With the news that popular radio personality Freak has taken over at The Kat 105.5 this month, here is a Freak flashback (Freakback?) to his early days at Rock 103.5. (Running time: 1:00)

(Running time: 4:55)

WGCI - Bob Wall calls Walter Payton - 07/25/85

WGCI-FM's morning man Bob Wall called and woke up the Bears Hall Of Fame Running Back, Walter Payton to wish him a happy birthday. (Audio clip courtesy of Harold Lee Rush.) Go Bears! (Running time: 1:52)

WLS-AM - 'Pop Tops' Jingle Intros - 1971

In 1971, WLS-AM briefly experimented with a new kind of jingle package called "Pop Tops" (as did a few other stations nationwide). "Pop Tops" would come on over the beginning instrumentals of songs (over the "tops" of the pop songs), with hired singers using some lyrics from the song and adding the station's ID. Here are five examples of this with the WLS jingle used in The Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye," Donny Osmond's "Sweet and Innocent," Ocean's "Put Your Hand in the Hand," Bread's "If" and Diana Ross' "Reach Out I'll Be There." (Running time: 1:47)

It features a long portion of the Dan Shannon/"Shannon in the Morning" morning show, as well as midday host Mike Love, afternoon host Marco Spoon and evening host Veronique. (Running Time: 31:51)
