Columbia College Hosts Midwest Radio Conference Saturday

The 7th Annual Midwest Regional High School and College Radio Conference at Columbia College takes place this Saturday, October 23, 2010. The all-day event will feature many panels and workshops, not to mention some very special guests & speakers.

The panel discussions cover a wide variety of subjects, including producing a morning show, starting a radio station, what radio stations look for in new talent, developing a web site that works, incorporating social media marketing, how to connect with the radio audience, finding your career niche, how to get your first full-time job at a radio station, and much more.

Workshops include: Audio Drama, Voice-0ver Techniques, Podcasting, Pro-Tools Overview, Digital Production, FCC Bootcamp, The Art of Interviewing Musicians, Demo Session Critique, and others.

The Keynote Speaker for this special event is John Gehron, the Chicago radio executive superstar, with one of the most impressive resumes around, which includes programming WLS during the 70's & 80's and starting up Oprah Winfrey's radio venture, Harpo Radio. He is currently the COO of AccuRadio.com.

The Featured Personality is Laura Steele. Steele started out as an intern on Chicago radio with Mitch Michaels on his "Rock & Roll Diner" show. She is now a top personality on Indianapolis' Q95 (the home station for nationally syndicated "Bob & Tom Show," where she often guests on) and is a reporter for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Laura Steele (although she had a different last name back then) graduated Columbia College in 1990 with a BA degree in Radio. Earlier this year, she was presented with a Columbia College Chicago Alumni of the Year Award.

The Columbia College Chicago High School Radio Awards presentation will also be taking place at this event at 11:00am.

The 7th Annual Midwest Regional High School and College Radio Conference takes place this Saturday from 9:30am-5:30am, with registration beginning at 8:30am. It will be held at at Columbia College Chicago, 33 E. Congress, 5th floor. The event is sponsored by Columbia College Chicago's Radio Department and Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems, Inc.

The admission is free for Columbia College students/alumni and interested high school students. The cost is $25 for IBS college members, and $45 for everybody else (other college students and the general public). Admission price includes access to as many panels & presentations as you can handle, as well as lunch.
