WGN-TV news reporter/anchor Lourdes Duarte and feature reporter Marcus LeShock will soon be seen on a national TV game show together, trying to win a million dollars for charity. Normally, WGN-TV would frown upon their reporters goofing around on a game show, but this is a unique situation, done with the station's blessings.
The syndicated version of the daytime game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" will be doing a week of shows with a special edition of the game called "Play It Forward." For this week of shows, they invited news people from many of the cities and stations that the game show airs on and asked them to participate on these special programs. With "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" airing on WGN-TV each weekday at 4:00pm, they of course wanted some representation from the WGN news team. Duarte & LeShock gladly volunteered. Other cities participating include Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Tampa, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
For this special week, players will appear as a two-person team. They will be able to discuss the questions and possible answers with each other before deciding on what will be their "Final Answer." Lourdes Duarte and Marcus LeShock will be the two-player team for Chicago & WGN. The duo are playing to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter. (Alzheimer's disease has affected LeShock's own grandmother, in addition to half-a-million other Illinoisans.)
The week of shows was actually shot in mid-October. Until the episodes air, the contestants are not allowed to say in advance how well they did (or didn't do) or just how much money they raised for charity.
They will not have to wait much longer, though. The shows will begin airing next week. The "Play It Forward" Week with news people playing on "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" will air on WGN-TV beginning Monday, November 29 at 4:00pm. Even though it is a week of shows, it actually went six days long, as some contestants apparently did well. It goes on until Monday, December 6th. The Duarte/LeShock team will be seen with host Meredith Vieira on Thursday, December 2nd.
