For New Year's Eve, WGN-TV & WGN America are doing something different that the typical NYE fare. The Chicago television station and the Chicago-based national cable channel will be broadcasting an exclusive special, "Live From Daryl's House: A New Year's Eve Special." The two-hour special will be made up of clips from Daryl Hall's award-winning web-only series called "Live From Daryl's House."
Daryl Hall is best known as one-half of the #1 selling music duo of all time, Hall & Oates. Toward the end of 2007, Hall thought it would be a fun idea to jam with various musicians, from old friends to new artists, and post the videos up on his website. The artists usually will show up at one of Hall's two houses and sing a handful of each other's songs. The programs can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes long. The Internet video series became a big hit, gaining acclaim from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music, and others. Earlier this year, it won a Webby Award.
On the evening of December 31st, WGN-TV & WGN America will air a special two hour version of Hall's popular web show. Daryl Hall himself will host the program, which will be made up of the best clips from the over three dozen "Live From Daryl's House" web shows already shot over the last three years. Performers that will be shown jamming with Hall include: Smokey Robinson, John Oates, Todd Rundgren, Rob Thomas, Train, Neon Trees, Sharon Jones, Eli Reed, Patrick Stump, Toots, Fitz and The Tantrums and Jose Feliciano. It will air from 10:00pm-Midnight Central time.
