WUSN-FM's midday personality Trish Biondo was nominated for an award by the Academy of Country Music early today. The award is for "On-Air Personality Of The Year - Major Market." This is the second time that Biondo has been nominated for this prestigious ACM award -- the first time being in 2007.
Unfortunately, even with WUSN-FM being the most successful Country music station in a major market for many years in row, once again, it was not nominated for "Radio Station Of The Year - Major Market." Instead, Country radio stations in Baltimore, MD, Charlotte, NC, Detroit, MI, Phoenix, AZ and St. Louis Park, MN were nominated. No other staffers of US99.5 were nominated, either. Two hosts of their Sunday syndicated line-up were nominated for "On-Air Personality Of The Year - National," those being: Lon Helton for his "CMT's Country Countdown USA" and Kix Brooks for his "American Country Countdown."
The 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will take place on April 3rd and broadcast nationally on CBS-TV live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. However, due to time constraints of the televised broadcast, the radio awards will not be part of the CBS program. Instead, the radio award winners will be honored at an ACM Pre-Awards Reception.
Besides getting the national recognition, Trish Biondo is well loved here in Chicago, as well. She has been with WUSN-FM for 25 years now. At the start of last month,
CBS Radio signed her to a multi-year extension, ensuring she will be part of the station for a long time to come.
