The Chicago Blackhawks Thank WGN's Garry Meier

Since the Chicago Blackhawks 2010-2011 season started last fall, WGN-AM's Garry Meier has done 9 live remotes from the United Center before a weekday night game was set to begin. In each & every day that Meier has done his United Center remotes this season, the Blackhawks have won that game that evening.

The first live remote this season was on November 30, 2010, and the most recent one was April 6, 2011.

It started out as a fun joke on Garry Meier's afternoon show (WGN-AM 3:00pm-7:00pm most weekdays) many weeks ago, when somebody pointed out that the Blackhawks were winning after a Garry Meier remote. Some callers were joking about the Meier "mojo" helping the Blackhawks get into the playoffs this year. What was almost sarcastically laughed about when it 5-0, became more joyful when it became 6-0, then 7-0, followed by 8-0. On Wednesday, Garry Meier did his 9th live remote this season from the United Center. The Blackhawks had a thrilling overtime victory that night, making it 9-0 for Meier's "mojo."

Even though logically, Garry Meier's presence at the stadium has nothing to do with the exciting performance by the teams on the ice on a given evening, it has still become a fun radio bit for fans of both Meier and Chicago's defending Stanley Cup Champions.

Yesterday, the Chicago Blackhawks acknowledged Garry Meier's lucky charm by sending over a very specially decorated cake to the veteran Chicago radio host. On the cake, icing spelled out the words: "Congratulations and Thank You Garry Meier." It added: "9-0, Let's go for 10-0!"

Here is Garry and his cake (before the WGN staffers devoured it later that day):
