In Chicago Tuesday night will be a very special concert called "
Hope: A Night of Jazz, Blues, World Music & Human Fellowship -- Benefit Concert for the People of Japan." Along with some of the biggest musical names in the local Jazz community, the concert will be hosted by a trio of great local radio personalities, known for their connection to varying types of Jazz.
The concert is to help benefit the people of Japan in the wake of Japan's deadly and catastrophic earthquake and tsunami, and the resulting nuclear scare from it.
The emcees for the special event will be:
Rick O'Dell - WLFM-LP/Smooth 87.7's midday host & Program Director
Barry Winograd - WXRT-FM's host of "Jazz Transfusion" and WDCB-FM's host of "All Things Jazz"
Neil Tesser - former WBEZ-FM host of "Jazz Forum" and Jazz Critic for Examiner.com, Playboy, Chicago Reader & elsewhere
The special night will feature the music of:
Neal Alger, Tatsu Aoki, Rich Armandi, Elizabeth Basta, Heath Chappell, Brad Dickert, Coco Elysses, Pat Fleming, Paulinho Garcia, The Green Mill Quartet, Chris Greene, Steven Hashimoto, John Janowiak, Fernando Jones, Kathy Kelly, Mike Levin, Howard Levy, Leandro Lopez-Varady, Dennis Luxion, Shawn Maxwell Quartet, Stacy McMichael, Mothra, Matt Nelson, Yoko Noge, Kalyan Pathak, Dean Rolando, Rick Shandling, Kurt Schweitz, Fred Simon, Linard Stroud, SueƱos Latin-Jazz, Ken Takaoka, Zvonimir Tot, Haruka Wada, Hiroshi Yasuda & more! (Artists listed alphabetically, not in order of appearance.)
The amazing night of music and assemblage of Jazz, Blues and World Music talent will take place this Tuesday, April 12th from 6:00pm-11:00pm at the Jazz Showcase, located at 806 S. Plymouth Court in Chicago. The cost is a suggested $30 donation at the door.
There will be appetizers & hors d'oeuvres donated by Ai Japanese Restaurant & Lounge, Msquare Catering, Cocoro Sushi & Restaurant, and Ginza Restaurant. All of the talented musicians performing will be donating their time and talents to the event. The Chicago media emcees are donating their time for the cause. Music Coordinator Steven Hashimoto has donated his time to make this all come together. Some equipment is being provided free of charge by Andy's Jazz Club. Wayne Segal is donating his Jazz Showcase venue along with the evening's proceeds from sales of donated sake. The Jazz Showcase's employees are even donating their time for this event.
All of this donated time, talent, materials and space means that 100% of the proceeds raised from this night will go to the Japanese Red Cross via the Japan America Society of Chicago.
