As they did heavily
last year and somewhat years before, Comcast SportsNet Chicago is going all-out in Chicago Bears coverage this season. Live post-game shows, preview shows, recap shows, and much more -- all covering the Bears game that just finished and/or the game coming up -- will be part of CSN's schedule this fall and winter.
Even though the Chicago Bears are the only major Chicago sports franchise that is not a part owner of Comcast SportsNet Chicago and no Bears games are ever broadcast on the station, the local all-sports channel is still making sure it covers the Chicago Bears as much, if not more than other television stations in Chicago.
Comcast SportsNet is preparing to cover Chicago's favorite team and the NFL in numerous ways beginning this month. The shows all coming back for a new season are...
BEARS POST GAME LIVE -- CSN will air the live post-game show following every Bears game beginning Sunday, September 11* following the Chicago Bears season opener. Some post game shows will air immediately after the end of the game, while some may be staggered slightly later due to baseball commitments for the next few weeks. The 90 minute show will again be hosted by Pat Boyle. Joining him will be a team of expert analysts, including former Bears offensive lineman Dan Jiggetts, former Bears quarterback Jim Miller, and Howard Griffith, the former University of Illinois record holding running back/fullback, two-time Super Bowl Champion (with the Denver Broncos) and Chicago native. "Bears Post Game Live" will also feature live post-game press conferences with coaches and players from both teams inside & outside the locker room with CSN's Bears beat reporter Kip Lewis and CSNChicago.com Bears "insider" John "Moon" Mullin. Those who miss the live post-game show can catch repeat airings on most Sunday nights and Monday afternoons. (*The season premiere on September 11 will be delayed until around 4:30pm, when the White Sox Post Game show is expected to end.)
UNITED BEARS RECAP -- Each Monday at 4:30pm throughout the season, this show will air highlights from the previous game, as well as will head to Halas Hall to the official team press conference with head coach Lovie Smith, along with additional Bears players/coaches interviews. This year, the 60 minute show will have a new host in William Jackson. He will be joined by analyst Dan Jiggetts, former Bears offensive lineman who is also part of the post-game show. The "Bears Recap" show will make it season debut on Monday, September 5th at 4:30pm with a special season preview edition of the program.
BEARS BLITZ -- Every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at 4:30pm, "Bears Blitz" will take in depth look at the next Bears game and of the team's upcoming opponent. Like "Bears Recap," this one hour show will again be hosted by William Jackson and Dan Jiggetts, with player & coach interviews provided by Kip Lewis, plus team insight/commentary from ChicagoBears.com writer Larry Mayer. The first show will be on September 7th.
COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF -- Another CSN program that analyzes the upcoming Bears contest is "Countdown To Kickoff." Just like last season, the 30 minute program is hosted by Pat Boyle, who is joined by Bears Super Bowl Champ & WBBM-AM Bears analyst Tom Thayer and six-time Bears Pro Bowler Lance Briggs. The show will feature discussion about all the key plays from the Bears' previous game and preview the next game. It will air each Thursday night at 11:00pm, with repeats being shown on Friday afternoons at 4:30pm. The season premiere of "Countdown to Kickoff" will be on Thursday, September 8th.
CHICAGO HUDDLE -- Yet another CSN Bears program is "Chicago Huddle," returning for its second season. This program is hosted by Dan Jiggetts, who is joined by Bears defensive tackle Anthony Adams, Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett, and former Loop Rock Girl/model/actress/media personality April Rose. The show will be a more fun preview of the game coming up. "Chicago Huddle" will air on Friday nights at 11:30pm and again on Sunday mornings at 9:30am. The season premiere airs on Friday, September 16th.
PRO FOOTBALL WEEKLY -- This long-running show is about to start its 24th season on television this year. As it was last year, the half-hour program is hosted by Pat Boyle, who is joined again by a true panel of experts: NFL Hall of Famer & WSCR contributor Dan Hampton, former Bears great & WMVP host Tom Waddle, and Pro Football Weekly Magazine Publisher & Editor Hub Arkush. While the show will discuss the Chicago Bears, its focus will be on thorough coverage of the entire NFL. The program will air each Friday at 5:00pm throughout the entire football regular & post season, with repeats on Sunday mornings at 9:00am and at various times on Saturdays. "Pro Football Weekly" makes its season premiere this Friday, September 2nd.
Of course, in addition to all of the above, Comcast SportsNet still has their two daily shows: "SportsNet Central" and "Chicago Tribune Live." The team of anchors & reporters on "SportsNite" will have all of the latest Bears & NFL updates each night at 6:30pm, 10:00pm, and 10:30pm. "Chicago Tribune Live" airs each weeknight at 5:30pm. Host David Kaplan will have a rotating panel of football experts with him breaking down the day's Bears news, as well as reviews & previews of NFL games.
If that wasn't enough, the local sports television station's website,
CSNChicago.com will have 24/7 Bears coverage all season long with Bears "Insider" John "Moon" Mullin, the Bears QB Blog by by former Bears quarterback Jim Miller called "15 on 6," additional talent blogs, live streaming of press conferences and post-game shows, live game-day scoreboard, fan message boards, and many online video features.
