WKSC-FM Releases David L From 'Brotha Fred's Neighborhood' PDF Print

It appears that "Brotha Fred's Neighborhood" has become more of a duplex than a whole neighborhood. As of this morning, WKSC-FM/103.5 Kiss FM morning show co-host David L has been kicked out of that neighborhood. The show will now go forward with only "Brotha Fred" Christopher Frederick as main host and Angi Taylor as co-host. Despite the show's steadily increasing ratings, Clear Channel Chicago looked to cut costs and removed comedic sidekick David L from the mix.

David L, whose real name is David Livingston, is a native of North Carolina. He was born in Monroe, NC and raised in Wingate, NC. He graduated Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio/TV Communications. David L tried his hand at stand-up comedy and ended up being fairly successful at it for many years. He was (and still is) represented by Heffron Talent International, the country's comedy largest booking agency with such A-list clients as Chris Rock, Louis CK, Carrot Top, Chelsea Handler, Jeff Dunham, and Larry the Cable Guy. He regularly opened for comedians such as Tommy Davidson and George Wallace.

While working as a stand-up comedian in the Charlotte, NC area, David L was heard by Rob Wagman, the then-Program Director of Charlotte's WIBT-FM, who asked him to be part of a morning show he was putting together. In 2006, one year after David L joined the station, that WIBT-FM morning show added new host Brotha Fred, who was just imported up to Charlotte from a station in Austin, TX. Together, the two were the key parts making that morning show a major success for over four years.

When WKSC-FM decided to replace DreX with Brotha Fred's show at the end of 2010 (officially starting in January 2011), David L was brought up to Chicago along with Brotha Fred. The new 103.5 Kiss FM morning show featured two holdovers from DreX's previous morning show: co-host Angie Taylor and producer Tommy Black. The show was originally named "Brotha Fred's Morning Mayhem," but quickly changed to "Brotha Fred's AM Mayhem," and then changed to "Brotha Fred's Neighborhood." The morning show was syndicated back to WIBT-FM from Chicago, with Brotha Fred and David L doing some special local segments for the Charlotte audience. It also is syndicated to a handful of smaller markets via Clear Channel's "Premium Choice" service.

In April of last year, Tommy Black was released in a cost-cutting move. At the end of December, WIBT-FM dropped the Brotha Fred show to air a local show. As of today, the show faced it's biggest cutback yet, as David L was released.

Clear Channel Chicago has yet to give an official statement regarding the release of David L and no mention of his exit was heard on today's show. As of today, all blogs, mentions, and photos of David L have been removed from the station's website and Facebook pages. Many photos were altered and cropped to simply cut David L out of the picture.

Despite the cost-cutting moves by its corporate parent, WKSC-FM's morning show has actually been doing decent in the ratings. After a rocky start, where fans of the former morning show with DreX did not want to welcome the show that replaced it, the show has performed well as of late, coming in near the top of the rankings in its target demo of 18-34 (usually in the top five, often at #3 or #4).

David L currently lives in Chicago with his wife and young son.
