Tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 8th, the Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) will be hosting a public memorial for Don Cornelius, the late Chicago-born broadcasting legend, who shockingly died last week from an apparent suicide. The Bronzville native started in radio and television here in Chicago in the 1960s, before becoming a national and international superstar as the host, creator, and producer of the iconic music & dance television program "Soul Train."

The event is open to the public, although seating is limited. It will take place from 6:00pm until approximately 8:00pm (doors open at 5:15pm) at the new MBC location, 360 N. State Street in Chicago. Scheduled to speak at the service are many close friends of Don Cornelius', including WVAZ-FM's Herb Kent, WBEZ-FM's Richard Steele, WCIU-TV's Jeannie Sparrow, WVON-AM's Melody Spann Cooper, WKKC-FM's Marv Dyson, Chicago broadcasting legend Merri Dee, Reverend Jesse Jackson, singer/Cook County Commissioner Jerry "The Iceman" Butler, television producer Don Jackson, and others.

The MBC memorial service is being sponsored by WCIU-TV/The U, WVON-AM 1690, WVAZ-FM/V103. Presenters hope to make it a celebration of Cornelius' life and trailblazing career and not a somber event mourning his loss.

For those who cannot attend, the entire service will be carried live on WVON-AM starting 6:00pm. It will be heard over the air on AM 1690 and streamed online at this link HERE.
