Chicago-based Internet radio station company Quest Broadcasting Group and one of its Internet radio stations, The Effn Rock Network, have put together a new weekly live & local rock music concert series: "Battle of the Effn Rock." Each Friday night, three local rock bands will compete and one lucky band will move on in the competition, until one is crowned "Champion of the Effn Rock" in late April.
The "Battle of the Effn Rock" concert competition series is running for 12 weeks. It started this past Friday and happens again tonight, starting at 9:00pm. It will continue on until the finals, which are scheduled for April 27th. The events will be held at the 17,000 sq. ft. live rock & roll & sports bar Shark City, located at 2240 Bloomingdale Road in Glendale Heights, IL. The nights will be hosted by Vanessa Ceron, a model who was Miss TropicBeauty Chicago 2011, Miss Swimsuit USA Chicago 2011, Playboy Intimates Top 15 finalist 2011, Miss TropicBeauty Puerto Rico 2012, and a featured bunny extra on NBC-TV's "The Playboy Club." Each Friday night, three unsigned bands, each playing only original music, will be judged on their songs, sound, originality, and stage presence. The judging looks to be a more fair process and not just a popularity contest with the crowd. Judges will account for the majority of votes, but audience voting can determine if a band advances as a wild card to the semi-finals. The judges themselves are also rated, with the best advancing to the semi-finals and finals. Each week will also feature some celebrity judges, including WYKT-FM/The Kat 105.5's Freak, WRXQ-FM's Dawn Avello, guitarist Clark Colborn, photographer "Chicago's Rock" Mario Salazar, and many more. One of the biggest complaints of local rock artists and the local music industry is that there is no longer any decent outlets for original rock music locally or nationally. Reaching the masses for unsigned artists has become a near impossibility in recent years, with original rock music being ignored by the radio industry. Quest Broadcasting is attempting to do its part to bring local and regional rock talent to the forefront of the music scene. Quest Broadcasting Group, Inc is the parent company of three Internet radio stations. The company was created and is currently operated by some current & former Chicago radio people who wanted to make the kind of quality radio that is now missing from the terrestrial airwaves. Quest Broadcasting's CEO & President is Jon C. Orozco. He has been in and out of local radio since his graduation from Columbia College Chicago back in 1991. Among the places he has worked in Chicago was at WCKG-FM. Quest Broadcasting Group, Inc was formed around two years ago, originally with the idea of bring quality content-based talk radio to the Internet. With a lot of hard work and the help of some other individuals, some of which may be familiar names to local radio fans, the online radio network became a reality. Quest Broadcasting Group, Inc. is comprised of three, completely live, Internet radio networks: - The Fantum Network - This network is all Paranormal programming, which has three shows: "Beyond the Medium with Amy Biank" that airs Wednesdays from 6:00pm-9:00pm, "Paranormal 911" that airs Thursdays 7:00pm-9:00, and "Your Psychic Journey with Jorianne 'The Coffee Psychic'" (a longtime and frequent guest of Jonathon Brandmeier's) that airs Thursdays 9:00pm-11:00pm. - The Eruption Talk Radio Network - This network currently features a pair of talk shows: "The Man Rave Show" with Jonny O & Greg Vale that airs Saturdays from 1:00pm-4:00pm, and "The Rant" with Karen, Kerry & Corrie that airs Tuesdays from 7:00pm-9:00pm. - The Effn Rock Network - Rock music network with targeted programming for the Chicagoland unsigned rock artists. "Rock Revolution" with hosts Rick & Derek airs Mondays from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Live simulcasts of the "Battle of the Effn Rock" contests airs Fridays from 7:00pm-around Midnight. Additional programming will be coming soon, too. All of the Quest Broadcasting stations can be found at this link HERE. Tickets for any of the "Battle of the Effn Rock" nights can be purchased in advance for $5 from the Effn Rock Network website or any of the participating bands' websites.
