WFLD-TV has finally hired a full-time weekend sports anchor, filling a long-running vacancy. Chicago's FOX station is bringing in from Ohio a fresh face for Chicago television, Dionne Miller. She will now anchor the sports reports each Friday and Saturday, as well as be a regular contributor & fill-in host for "The Final Word," WFLD-TV's Sunday night sports wrap-up program, and occasional weekday sports reporting segments.
In today's announcement, Dionne Miller said: "I am both honored and excited to be joining a great team at FOX and can't wait to get started. There are few cities that rival the passion Chicago has for sports and as a passionate fan myself, the opportunity to make this city my home, is a dream."
Since 2007, Miller has been a freelance anchor/reporter for the regional sports network, FOX Sports Ohio. She is also currently a freelance reporter for the Chicago-based Big Ten Network, where she has contributed reports since 2009.
Miller has previously worked in Columbus, OH at WCMH-TV and WCSN, the now-defunct Columbus Sports Network. Prior to that, she worked briefly at WWSB-TV as a sports reporter, as well as at XETV in the San Diego market as a weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter, along with stops in Burlington, VT (WPTZ-TV) and Billings, MT (KSVI-TV).
A native of Chardon, OH, Miller graduated from Houghton College (Houghton, NY) in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Writing & English Literature.
She is married to part-time FOX Sports Ohio anchor/reporter and part-time Realtor Ray Crawford. They have one son together. (Crawford has two children from a previous marriage, also.) Miller, her husband and her son are now in the process of moving from their home near Columbus, OH to Chicago. She is scheduled to begin her new job on the air with WFLD-TV on the first weekend of April.
WFLD-TV has been without a full-time weekend sports anchor since August 2010, when the former News Director of the station did not renew the contract of sports anchor Jill Carlson. She was replaced by Lou Canellis, who WFLD-TV had been using for years on a per diem basis, but quickly bumped him up to lead sports anchor after Corey McPherrin left the sports desk to become the new co-host of WFLD-TV's "Good Day Chicago." Since then, the station has used other well-known Chicago sports reports to fill that need on a freelance basis, including Dan Jiggetts and Kerry Sayers.
