South-suburban WSSR-FM/Star 96.7, is revamping its on-air line-up and bringing back a Chicago radio star, beginning this coming Monday, September 10th.
Earlier this week, Tanya Ziegler Maher, known on the air as simply Tanya, exited as Star 96.7's morning personality. She had been in that role since May 23, 2011. She said to her fans on Facebook this past Tuesday
: "I have moved on from this radio station to purse other wonderful opportunities. Thank you for your support!" Scott Childers, WSSR-FM Program Director tells CRM: "We wish her the best."
Replacing Tanya will be a new live & local morning program, entitled "Cooper In The Morning Show." Josh Cooper has now been promoted from middays to mornings. He has been with WSSR-FM since April 2006, working the midday shift and doing morning news & traffic reports for the last few years. A native of Rockford, Josh Cooper moved to Naperville in 2001 to attend North Central College, where he began his radio career at WONC-FM.
Joining Cooper will be a new addition to the radio station, Bolingbrook native Anna Kopsky. She will be heard each weekday morning delivering news & traffic reports, as well as serving as co-host. Like Josh Cooper, "Anna Kay" received her start in radio at North Central College's WONC-FM.
The new "Cooper In The Morning Show" will continue to be a music-based morning program, as it was before, but plans are to make it much more interactive and locally-focused than it has been. The morning show will air in the same hours it did before, 5:00am-9:00am.
Program Director Scott Childers shared his excitement about the new show in a statement this afternoon, saying: "This is going to be a super-local and inclusive show that our listeners will be able to enjoy and interact with every morning! Josh has been a familiar voice on our morning show for the last four years and this is a great opportunity to take it to the next level with the addition of Anna."
With Cooper moving to mornings, this created a vacancy in the midday 9:00am-2:00pm shift. Filling that void will be Chicago radio veteran Maura Myles. Starting Monday morning, she brings her wealth of experience, along with her warm & refreshing style to Star 96.7.
Having worked all over the Chicago radio landscape for many years, it is difficult to list all of the stations Maura Myles voice has been heard on. She most recently worked full-time as morning show co-host on WLS-FM. Prior to that, Myles has been heard on such varied stations as WUSN-FM, WLS-AM, WCKG-FM, WZFS-FM, WLUP-FM, WXLC-FM, and WMAQ-AM. Since September 2006, she has also been the imaging voice of Lakeshore Public Television & Radio (WYIN-TV & WLPR-FM).
In today's statement, Scott Childers said this about having Maura Myles join his station: "Mo is a genuine person who knows how to connect with people. Plus, she lives right here in the suburbs and lives the lifestyle every day. She has the perfect blend of personality and fun."
Scott Childers will continue to hold down the afternoon drive shift of 2:00pm-7:00pm.
WSSR-FM/Star 96.7 is a Hot AC format station, targeting Women 25-54. It plays current hit songs, along with favorites from the last 20 years mixed in. The NextMedia-owned station, headquartered in Crest Hill, serves the western and southern suburbs.
