U Too To Air 'Green Screen Adventures' Each Weekday Morning During CPS Strike

Weigel Broadcasting-owned local television channel, The U Too, will air the educational and informational children's program "Green Screen Adventures" each weekday morning throughout the current Chicago Teachers Union's strike. This special programming, serving young CPS students who are not in class, begins tomorrow morning.

Starting tomorrow morning, "Green Screen Adventures" will air at a special time, weekdays from 8:00am-9:00am. This will replace syndicated reruns of "America's Court with Judge Ross" during the strike period.

Bob Ramsey, Weigel Broadcasting Co. Vice President and General Manager, said in a statement today: "'Green Screen Adventures' encourages children to be creative and stretch their writing muscles. It is our pleasure to offer this program to aid the education process particularly at this time while Chicago Public School children are not in the classroom."

"Green Screen Adventures" uses short stories, artwork, reports, poems, essays, and questions submitted from Chicagoland students between second and eighth grades. An ensemble of Chicago actors then brings those submissions to life by performs stories and songs based on the children's entries, using costumes, puppets, props, music, and especially, the green chroma key backdrop, which gives the show its name.

The show is produced and distributed by Chicago's Weigel Broadcasting. "Green Screen Adventures" was started in 2007, originally produced for local broadcast only on WCIU-TV, but can now be seen nationally via the This TV and Me-TV digital subchannel networks.

Since its debut five years ago, "Green Screen Adventures" has been honored with numerous awards and accolades, including a 2012 National Daytime Emmy Award, a Telly award for Children’s Programming, two Gabriel Awards from the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals, two Clarion Awards from the Association for Women in Communications, and a Service to America Award from the National Association of Broadcasters Foundation.

The U Too can be found on over the air on WCIU-TV's digital subchannel 26.2. It can also be seen on the cable systems Comcast XFinity channels 248/360, RCN channel 35 and WOW channel 170.

"Green Screen Adventures" airs on the national networks, Me-TV, Saturdays and Sundays at 7:00am and on THIStv, Saturdays at 9:00am. Locally, the show can normally be seen WCIU-TV/The U Saturdays at 7:00am, and on Me-Too weekdays at 7:00am.
