WGN-TV news anchor/reporter/host Lourdes Duarte will begin to provide daily news briefs and discussions on the midday show of WLEY-FM/La Ley 107.9. This new segment and arrangement between WGN-TV & WLEY-FM will begin on Monday, October 29th.
Starting this coming Monday afternoon, La Ley 107.9 midday host "El Plebe" (Martin Omar Novela) will welcome Lourdes Duarte on the air. Each weekday at approximately 2:50pm, Duarte will deliver the news headlines & items of interest. Together, the two will discuss those topics and other issues that matter to the radio station's audience: Chicago's Latino community.
Duarte will continue her role as news anchor for "WGN News at Five" and host of WGN-TV's public affairs show "Adelante Chicago."
Lourdes Duarte first joined WGN-TV in September 2007 as a general assignment reporter. Prior to that, she worked at WJBK-TV in Detroit, MI, WXIN-TV in Indianapolis, IN, WHOI-TV in Peoria, IL and was a traffic reporter for a pair of radio stations in Miami, FL. She began her media career here in Chicago as a freelance reporter for WSNS-TV/Telemundo.
A Chicago native, Duarte has won several awards including a Society of Professional Journalists Awards for Minority Issues Reporting and regional Emmy Awards for her television excellence.
The addition of Lourdes Duarte to La Ley 107.9 is just one of many changes that has taken place at the SBS-owned radio station recently.
Last month, the station was awarded the rights to Spanish-language broadcasts of this season's Chicago Bears games.
This week, WLEY-FM parted ways with its Program Director and popular host Jose Luis Marquez, aka "El Pitufo."
Today, the station moved its morning show to afternoons and began airing a new top-rated morning show.
