As he has done for many years in a row, WLS-FM's Radio Hall of Famer Dick Biondi will once again be the host of the next "Elvis Fest," as the King of Chicago radio helps salute the King of Rock & Roll.
For the 13th year in a row, this annual event will take place at the Original Mother's, located at 26 W. Division Street in Chicago. It will happen on Tuesday, January 8th, which would have been Elvis Presley's 78th birthday. Even though he has been gone for over 35 years (Presley died on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42), fans still wish to pay homage to "The King" each year at this time.
The night will be filled with Elvis Presley tribute artists from the Elvis Entertainers Network live on stage. Attendees may also come dressed as Elvis and participate in the Elvis-look-alike contest -- the winner of which gets an exclusive "Elvis 35" letterman/varsity jacket, autographed by radio legend Dick Biondi. Additionally, attendees (dressed up or not) can participate in the Elvis karaoke contest for chances to win more prizes.
One new addition to this year's festivities is that a lucky couple will be selected to be legally wed (or renew their vows) by an ordained minister dressed as Elvis, live on stage at "Elvis Fest." The couple will also win a honeymoon trip for two to (Viva) Las Vegas. Couples have already submitted their requests. Starting tomorrow and through January 2nd, fans can select the winning couple online at his link HERE
. The winning couple will be notified the night of January 2nd.
A free buffet, featuring Elvis Presley's favorite snack food, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, will be included for all "Elvis Fest" attendees. As always, there will be a large Elvis birthday cake for all to share, although this year, the birthday cake will double as a wedding cake. The cake's candles will be lit by Dick Biondi, who will lead the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday."
Mothers' will be offering Elvis Presley-themed drink specials, including $5 Absolut "All Shook Up" and Malibu "Aloha from Hawaii" cocktails.
One other change this year is that Dick Biondi will not be able to be broadcasting live from the event as he has done in the past. With his hours on WLS-FM pushed back to starting after 11:00pm, and with the station rarely playing any music by Elvis Presley, thanks to a recent flip to a Classic Rock/Classic Hits hybrid format, Biondi will only be allowed to call in to the station. This will supposedly happen twice per hour during the "Elvis Fest."
The doors open at 7:00pm for the party. There is no cover charge to attend, but there is a suggested donation of $5 to the preferred charity of Mothers', the New Orleans Musicians Clinic.
Don't be nothin' but a hound dog. Come out and see Dick Biondi as he hosts the 13th annual "Elvis Fest" from 8:00pm-11:00pm.
