WSCR-AM, the longtime radio home for the Chicago White Sox, and Comcast SportsNet Chicago, the local sports television network that airs the most Sox games, are each planning to broadcast special programming from and about the 2013 Chicago White Sox Convention, aka SoxFest, which takes place this weekend.
The 2013 SoxFest begins Friday afternoon at 4:00pm and runs through Sunday afternoon until 3:00pm. It is being held once again this year at the Palmer House Hilton, located at 17 E. Monroe Street in Chicago. This annual event gives die-hard Sox fans a chance to meet directly with Sox players, personnel, and announcers.
On WSCR-AM/670 The Score, the fun starts Friday at 6:00pm, as Laurence Holmes will be broadcasting his show live from SoxFest until 10:00pm. The station will be doing additional live remotes throughout the weekend from SoxFest, as well. On Saturday from 8:00am-Noon, Mark Grote and Mike Esposito will be live from the convention, followed by "White Sox Weekly" with Chris Rongey live from SoxFest from Noon-2:45pm. On Sunday, WSCR-AM will be live from SoxFest from 9:00am-Noon with Barry Rozner and Connor McKnight hosting "Hit and Run."
For those attending the Sox convention, WSCR-AM's Laurence Holmes will also host a seminar there on Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm-2:45pm, entitled "From The Draft To The Big Leagues," with Buddy Bell, Nick Capra, and Doug Laumann.
On the TV side, Comcast SportsNet Chicago will be broadcasting live from the 2013 White Sox Convention opening ceremonies from 4:00pm-5:00pm. It will feature the introductions of Sox players, coaches, executives, and past legends. The broadcast will also include live interviews with Sox players following the opening ceremonies, video montages, and more. This exclusive live presentation will be hosted by CSN Chicago's White Sox pre/post game host Chuck Garfien, along with former White Sox slugger and current CSN Chicago White Sox studio analyst Bill Melton.
At 5:30pm, CSN Chicago's "Chicago Tribune Live" will have David Kaplan hosting the show live from SoxFest 2013. He will have with him the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales & Brad Biggs, along with some SoxFest surprise guests.
For those attending the Sox convention, CSN Chicago's Chuck Garfien will also host a seminar there on Friday evening from 7:30pm-8:15pm, entitled "First Game Memories," with Gordon Beckham, Bill Melton, Tom Paciorek, Aaron Rowand, and Pete Ward.
Additionally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Chuck Garfien will be delivering reports on the station's news program "SportsNet Central" when it airs throughout the evening at 10:00pm, 10:30pm, and Midnight. (There is no 6:30pm "SportsNet Central" on Friday night due to a Chicago Bulls live pre-game show broadcast.)
On Comcast SportsNet Chicago's website, CSNChicago.com, Garfien will post up reports in the WhiteSoxTalk section throughout the weekend from the convention, featuring interviews with Sox players, coaches, and fans. Also, CSNChicago.com's White Sox "Insider" Dan Hayes and WhiteSoxTalk blogger J.J. Stankevitz will provide website visitors with real-time online coverage all weekend long.
In addition to the SoxFest seminars hosted by Holmes and Garfien mentioned above, other convention seminars will be hosted by various local media stars, including White Sox television announcers Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Steve Stone, fill-in television announcer Mike Huff, White Sox radio announcers Ed Farmer and Darrin Jackson, White Sox public address announcer Gene Honda, WGN-TV sports anchor Rich King, and Sun-Times columnist/WLS-AM host/White Sox fanatic Richard Roeper.
