WMAQ-TV To Air New Documentary 'WVON: 50 Years Of Impact' This Sunday

WMAQ-TV/NBC 5 Chicago will broadcast a new 30-minute documentary about WVON-AM this coming Sunday afternoon. The special will look at the station's 50 years in existence on Chicago radio and its incredible influence it has had during these past five decades.

The documentary, entitled "WVON: 50 Years Of Impact," will honor WVON-AM's historic achievements. The special program will feature interviews with President of WVON Melody Spann Cooper, Clear Channel Chicago President and Market Manger Earl Jones, Marv Dyson, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., Dr. Chandra Gill, Dorothy Tillman, Mary Mitchell, and Rhymefest, as well as former WVON former personalities Herb Kent, Lucky Cordell, and Pervis Spann (WVON's President Emeritus).

"WVON: 50 Years Of Impact" will air on WMAQ-TV Sunday, August 21st at 12:30pm. The documentary was produced by Captivate Marketing Group's Yvonne McNair and directed by Media Process Group.

WVON-AM made its debut on April 1, 1963 on AM 1450 and celebrated its 50th anniversary at the start of this month. The station has since changed owners a few times, along with radio frequencies, but remains one of the most important radio stations in history.
