WIND-AM's Steve Cochran To Again Host Golf Event Honoring WWII Veterans

WIND-AM's early evening drive-time host Steve Cochran has always been a huge fan of both golf and of our country's military. For the second summer in a row, he gets to combine both of those passions. The radio host will once again be hosting the Steve Cochran Honor Flight Chicago Golf Outing.

The Steve Cochran Honor Flight Chicago Golf Outing will be an all-day event taking place on June 6th at the Bolingbrook Golf Club (2001 Rodeo Drive, Bolingbrook, IL).

Those who register for $199 will be able to play 18 holes of golf with an included golf cart, receive an AM 560 The Answer gift bag, be served a lunch, be able to attend the awards banquet/dinner, and be able to participate in the silent auctions and raffles. For an additional $50, participants can sponsor a World War II veteran at the awards dinner. For $1500, a few lucky participants will be able to be part of a foursome led by Steve Cochran himself, or one led by WIND-AM's morning show co-host Amy Jacobson. Those who do not wish to golf, but want to take part in this charity event may also pu5rchase dinner only packages.

WIND-AM's local weekday hosts Cochran, Jacobson and Big John Howell will all be on site that day to spend time with all of the participants and donors.

Most importantly, proceeds from the registration fees and from the auctions/raffles goes toward supporting Honor Flight Chicago, a non-profit organization founded in 2008 to recognize World War II veterans with a day of honor, remembrance, and celebration. Honor Flight Chicago honors these World War II veterans by paying for them to take a trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

The Honor Flight Chicago website estimates that there are approximately 22,000 World War II Veterans in the Chicago area alone -- many of which have never been properly thanked or honored after they arrived home from war. So far, Honor Flight Chicago has been able to send around 3,000 vets to the Washington D.C. WWII memorial. To send a plane to the nation's capital, the cost is $35,000 -- all of which is raised from donations.

The number of surviving World War II veterans dwindles each year. In just a few more years, it quite possible they will be no longer with us.

Leading up to last year's event, Steve Cochran said: "We lose almost a thousand World War II vets each day. Time is running out to pay the honor due them."

This may be the second year in a row that Steve Cochran has hosted and had his name attached to the event, but this is the fifth straight year that WIND-AM has sponsored a summer golf outing for charity.
