WBBM-AM 780 selected their new Managing Editor today, finding the right "Mann" for the job: Julie Mann. As the station's Managing Editor, she will have many of the responsibilities held by Drew Hayes, WBBM's former Operations Director, before he accepted the role as Operations Director for rival WLS-AM just over a month ago. Her responsibilities will include handling story assignments for WBBM-AM's roster of reporters and other managerial responsibilities connected with the station's everyday operations.
Mann joined WBBM-AM in 1997, after spending a few years working at suburban stations, mainly WDKB-FM in DeKalb and WFXW-AM in Geneva. She also previously worked for Shadow/Metro, anchored the overnight news on WMAQ-AM. Since 2002, Mann has WBBM's Suburban Bureau Chief, working out of the offices of the Daily Herald. She also was occasionally heard on WBBM-AM's Sunday program "At Issue" with Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Julie Mann is a graduate of Drake University. She grew up in the west-suburban Kane County, where she and her husband continue to live.
WBBM-AM hopes to name a new Suburban Bureau Chief in the near future.
