Clear Channel Radio announced today that it will be undergoing a bold new effort on their Urban, Urban AC, and Inspirational/Gospel radio stations to help inform its audience about HIV/AIDS and promote HIV testing. The Chicago stations that will be airing this information are WGCI-FM, WVAZ-FM and WGRB-AM.
The effort & commitment by Clear Channel Radio is a partnership with the Greater Than AIDS, a national organization that responds to the continuing AIDS crisis in the United States, with a particular focus on the severe and disproportionate impact of HIV on Black Americans. While Black Americans make up under 15% of the US population, they make up almost 50% of those living with HIV/AIDS.
The three radio stations in Chicago, as well as in over 60 other markets, will air new public service announcements (or PSAs) which will direct listeners to online resources that provide lifesaving information about HIV/AIDS and local testing resources. Clear Channel Radio and Greater Than AIDS will also air a 30-minute radio program in June as part of the partnership. Along with the radio effort, Clear Channel Outdoor will put up Greater Than AIDS billboards and other outdoor ads to further the message. This is all done leading up to June 27th, which is National HIV Testing Day.
