Clear Channel Radio Chicago announced late this afternoon that their nighttime personality on WKSC-FM, Special K, has been promoted to the position of Music Director for that station, effective this coming Monday, May 17th. He will also continue his role as DJ on Kiss-FM on the 8:00pm-Midnight weeknight shift he has held since last October.
He replaces Kenard "K2" Karter, who starts Monday as the new
Assistant Program Director/Music Director at KMEL-FM in San Fransisco, CA. Karter was also the MD of Chicago's WGCI-FM. Yesterday afternoon, Clear Channel Radio Chicago announced that
Al B. Sylk will take on the MD duties at WGCI.
Special K, whose real name is Scott Corchin, began his on-air work on WKSC in the Fall of 2006, when the local club DJ was given a weekend shift and allowed to be one of the hosts of the weekend dance show, "Club Kiss." In his three and half years with the station, he has also done on-air fill-in work, production and promotion work. In the Fall of 2009, Special K took over the daily night shift after then nighttime jock Silly Jilly accepted a position in Houston, TX, vacating the shift. His fill-in work there quickly led him to getting the job on a full-time basis.
In his role as Music Director, he will report directly to WKSC Program Director Rick Vaughn. Vaughn said of of his new MD today, "Special K's experience and passion give 103.5 Kiss-FM an advantage no other radio station in Chicago can match."
