"Lakeshore News Tonight," the newscast seen each weeknight at 9:00pm on Lakeshore Public Media's WYIN-TV, is moving and expanding next week. The newscasts will now be seen each weeknight at 6:00pm and 10:00pm, starting Monday, May 6th.
The "Lakeshore News Tonight" newscast is the only live and local newscast for Northwest Indiana on television. It has been on the air since 1989, when it made its debut as "56 Nightly News."
The anchors of the award-winning news program remain the same with this change to twice each weeknight and at new times. Jodi Juhl, formerly of WBBM-AM and CLTV, continues as the station's lead news anchor and Assistant News Director. Joe Arredondo, with the newscast since its start, continues as Sports Director and sports anchor. Matt Wintz remains the station's meteorologist.
Matt Franklin, Lakeshore Public Media's Vice President of Television Operations, said in a statement: "The new time slots and extra news hour provide twice the opportunity to serve the community with local news when they want it."
Jodi Juhl added: "Viewers have many choices for television news, but the majority offer national stories. At, 'Lakeshore News Tonight,' we take great pride in being the only local television news station in Northwest Indiana. We provide street-level coverage -- from local city council activity and environmental developments to the progress of our K-12 schools and universities."
"Lakeshore News Tonight" is seen on WYIN-TV, channels 56.1 and 56.2 over the airwaves, as well as on channels 17 and 239 on Comcast/Xfinity, and on channel 56 on both DirecTV and Dish Network.
