Chicago Radio Veterans Host Ballroom Event For Military Veterans

This coming Sunday afternoon, V-SPANN and the Willowbrook Ballroom will present "Operation: Dancing With The Real Stars Military Ball," a dancing and big band music event honoring America's veterans.

The day will be hosted by three longtime Chicago radio personalities: Rich Renik, Denny Farrell, and Jennifer O'Neill.

Rich Renik has worked as a DJ in Chicago radio since 1970 at such stations as WXFM-FM, WDHF-FM, WMAQ-AM, the Chicago-based Satellite Music Network, WUSN-FM, and at WCCQ-FM, where he has been heard since 2003. Additionally, he hosted the nationally syndicated "Country Flashback" show from 1994-2001. Renik, a U.S. Army veteran, also is the host of the V-SPANN Spotlight Series on the V-SPANN website.

Like Renik, Denny Farrell started working in radio in 1970. He has been a DJ on such famed Chicago radio stations as WCFL-AM, WXFM-FM, and WJJD-AM. Farrell is the longtime host of the syndicated radio program "The Original Big Band Showcase." His show has won an award from the National Ballroom & Entertainment Association and Farrell himself has been inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame.

Jennifer O'Neill has not been working in radio as long as the other two hosts, but since graduating Columbia College Chicago in 2000, she has been heard delivering news at WTAX-FM (Springfield), WJOL-AM, WBBM-AM, WIQI-FM (FM News 101.1), and WLS-AM/FM. She also works as a web editor for WLS-AM and as an instructor for the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.

The live music for this event will be delivered by the Teddy Lee Orchestra, featuring Chicago singer Peter Oprisko, along with a special appearance by Chicago signer/model Erin Gipson. The 13 piece orchestra will provide big band music ranging from classics, waltzes, Latin, society, jazz, and Dixieland.

The most welcome guests of honor on Sunday won't be the hosts or the musicians, but rather past and present members of our country's Armed Forces. They will assemble at the historic Willowbrook Ballroom for a day of dancing and camaraderie.

Veterans who come to the event wearing their uniform, commendations, ribbons, medals, and/or their dog tags will be entered into a drawing for a large flat screen television.

"Operation: Dancing With The Real Stars Military Ball" will take place on Sunday, May 5th from 2:00pm-5:00pm. It will be held at the Willowbrook Ballroom, located at 8900 S. Archer Avenue in Willow Springs.

Tickets may be purchased in advance on V-SPANN's website at this link HERE or for $14 at the door.

All proceeds from the "Operation: Dancing With The Real Stars Military Ball" ticket sales, raffles, and silent auctions will go to V-SPANN to further their goals of delivering programming and raising awareness for America's veterans and their families, as well as creating distribution channels for Veteran Service Organizations.

Sunday's event will be video recorded for later broadcast.
