WVON-AM will host a very special event this week, where the guest of honor will be the incredible Merri Dee. At this live event, Chicago broadcasting legend, beloved media icon, and generous philanthropist Merri Dee will discuss her phenomenal career in local TV and radio, share some of stunning personal hardships she's endured in her life, and how she has risen above the negatives to lead such a positive life.
This will take place at WVON's 4th Annual "Speak Sistah Speak: Entrepreneur & Small Business Initiative." This year's "Speak Sista Speak" will be on this Thursday, May 30th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, held at The Chicago Club (81 E. Van Buren Street, Chicago).
Serving as the emcees that evening will be five of Chicago's most respected television news anchors: WGN-TV's Micah Mattere, WFLD-TV's Robin Robinson, WLS-TV's Cheryl Burton, WMAQ-TV's Marion Brooks, and WBBM-TV's Dorothy Tucker (who is also heard on WVON-AM).
The event will begin with a networking reception and Merri Dee signing copies of her new autobiography, "Life Lessons on Faith, Forgiveness & Grace
." She very recently released
her inspirational book about her life.
Merri Dee worked in Chicago media for 42 years -- starting out as a DJ "Merri Dee, the Honey Bee" on south-suburban radio station WBEE-AM, before going into television, working for WCIU-TV, WSNS-TV, and finally, WGN-TV for 37 years. She retired from the media business in October 2008.
WVON-AM's annual "Speak Sistah Speak" event is a business and entrepreneurial series designed for professional women. For this year, they decided to celebrate the life and business achievements of Merri Dee at the event.
