WSCR-AM Hosting All-Star Softball Game For Charity

WSCR-AM/670 The Score, along with CBS Radio Chicago, will be hosting a sports celebrity softball game in September, featuring some Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs greats. It is all being done to support three charities.

The 1st Annual Larry A. Pogofsky Chicago All-Star Softball Challenge will take place on September 7th.

The game is named after Larry Pogofsky, an original investor in the Jerry Reinsdorf-owned Chicago White Sox, member of the White Sox Board of Directors, and a baseball enthusiast. Pogofsky passed away in December 2010 at the age of 64.

This year, the Pogofsky family partnered with CBS Radio and WSCR-AM to put together this celebrity game for charity, bringing together baseball legends from both Chicago MLB teams for the first time ever.

The event will feature numerous Chicago baseball legends, with the White Sox all-stars playing on one team, and the Cubs all-stars playing on the other.

Scheduled to be taking part for the White Sox All-Stars are: Ozzie Guillen, Frank Thomas, Jermaine Dye, Ray Durham, Ron Kittle, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Lee, James Baldwin, Cliff Politte, Chad Kreuter, Paco Martin, Brian Anderson, Aaron Rowand, Tony Phillips, and Norberto Martin.

Scheduled to be taking part for the Cubs All-Stars are: Derek Lee, Gary Matthews, Jr, Manny Trillo, Jamie Moyer, Brian McRae, Cliff Floyd, Steve Trout, Jaque Jones, Scott Eyre, Adam Greenberg, Bill Madlock, and Willie Wilson.

Other names could be announced in August. (All names subject to change.)

Ben Pogofsky, son of Larry A. Pogofsky and founder of the Larry A. Pogofsky Chicago All-Star Softball Challenge, said this week: "My father, Larry A. Pogofsky, was the biggest die-hard baseball fan and would be thrilled to know his favorite players are gathering in his honor to benefit Chicago nonprofits. Baseball has given me memories with my father that will last a lifetime, and there is no better way to celebrate those memories than with this historic charity softball game between former players from our beloved Chicago teams."

The 2013 Larry A. Pogofsky Chicago All-Star Softball Challenge will take place on Saturday, September 7th at Boomers Stadium in suburban Schaumburg (1999 S. Springinsguth Rd). The game will start at approximately 4:00pm.

Prior to the game, there will be a 90-minute Kid's Clinic, starting at 2:30pm. Young fans will get the chance to take part in an on-field baseball skills clinic -- including base running, batting, and fielding drills -- hosted by the Bulls/Sox Academy.

Tickets went on sale yesterday for this fun charity sports event. There are three different levels/packages being sold, with prices ranging from $15 to $75, all of which can be purchased online HERE.

All proceeds from this event will go to benefit Chicago White Sox Charities, Chicago Cubs Charities, and the Special Kids Network.
