Clear Channel Partners With O'Hare & Midway Airports, Creates New 'AIR Chicago' Smooth Jazz Station

Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Chicago, along with one of its sister-companies, Clear Channel Airports (a division of Clear Channel Outdoors), have partnered with the Chicago Department of Aviation for a pair of major projects. One is a new Smooth Jazz radio station dedicated to giving information to those using Chicago's airports, while the other is a new kiosk display within O'Hare airport.

The new radio station is named AIR Chicago. This station plays commercial-free Smooth Jazz music 24 hours each day. The only exception to the music will be when information is being given out to travelers using O'Hare and Midway airports. These updates are primarily traffic and weather updates from the Clear Channel-owned Total Traffic Network, but can also include news and airport information. (While the music is commercial-free, the Total Traffic reports are sponsored, with the reporters doing live ad reads.)

In a statement being released, Rosemarie S. Andolino, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation, said: "On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are proud that O'Hare and Midway, in partnership with Clear Channel, are the first airports to offer a radio station specifically devoted to keeping passengers in touch with real-time information. AIR Chicago is a great example of our efforts to provide a 'best-in-class' experience for the millions of travelers who fly through our busy transportation hubs."

Unlike the former Chicago stations Smooth Jazz 95.5 or Smooth 87.7, or the far superior current station, SmoothJazzChicago.net, AIR Chicago does not have any radio personalities. The music is selected from a limited Clear Channel Smooth Jazz playlist, made primarily from top Smooth Jazz hits from the last 30 years, not from a local programmer.

There will be multiple ways to hear this new radio station:
1. Streaming via the Chicago Department of Aviation's website FlyChicago.com. (Streaming to begin on 11/25/13.)
2. WKSC-HD2, the HD-2 station for 103.5 Kiss FM. (AIR Chicago replaces Pride Radio, Evolution, and the Verizon New Music station which could previously be found there.)
3. Streaming via the iHeartRadio website. (Direct link HERE.)
4. Streaming via the iHeartRadio phone/tablet apps.
5. Heard live at the new Fly Green Chicago kiosk at O'Hare Airport.

The Fly Green Chicago kiosk at O'Hare International Airport is another partnership between Clear Channel and the Chicago Department of Aviation.

The exhibit will educate O'Hare travelers about the merits of going "green." It has displays which spotlights O'Hare's decade of efforts at conserving energy and resources.

Even the display is "green" and eco-friendly, in that Clear Channel Airports constructed the displays using sustainable materials and nature-inspired architecture. The seven displays were created using rigid board made from discarded wheat stalks. The benches within the kiosk were constructed from reclaimed walnut salvaged from the floor of the Mississippi River, with the bench padding made with 60% bio-based material from sugar cane. The lighting is entirely from low-power LED lights.

Another feature to draw in visitors to the Fly Green Chicago display will be that the benches in the kiosk are equipped with free cell phone charging outlets.
