Rick O'Dell's SmoothJazzChicago.net Comes To HD Radio

Greg Solk, Senior Vice President of Programming for Hubbard Radio Chicago, announced today that Rick O'Dell's highly regarded Internet radio station, SmoothJazzChicago.net, will also be simulcast on WTMX-HD2. The simulcast begins today (Tuesday) at Noon.

Smooth Jazz local broadcasting legend Rick O'Dell is a life-long Chicagoland resident and has been a staple on the Chicago-area radio airwaves since 1981. He best known for his 19 years at WNUA-FM, when it was a Smooth Jazz station, where he was a DJ, Music Director, and Program Director. More recently, he served in those same roles on the short-lived, but impressive WLFM-LP/Smooth 87.7.

O'Dell launched the SmoothJazzChicago.net website in November 2012. With no Smooth Jazz or Smooth AC found anywhere on the Chicago radio landscape, O'Dell's website became a haven for fans of this genre. With it's high-quality sound and programming, plus with O'Dell's deep connections and respect within the Smooth Jazz industry, SmoothJazzChicago.net became a highly-popular website in Chicago (and worldwide) in this past year.

On the Smooth Jazz Chicago station, Rick O'Dell serves as this station's live midday host (9:00am-3:00pm) and Program Director, personally programming the music that will be heard 24 hours each day. O'Dell's personal collection of over 4,000 CDs of Smooth Jazz and related genres is the foundation of the music programmed.

Joining O'Dell are other voices quite familiar to fans of WNUA-FM and WLFM-LP, including Bill Cochran and Scott Adams. Cochran, the talented imaging voice of WNUA-FM/WLFM-LP (as well as numerous other media outlets nationwide over the years, including Chicago's WXRT-FM and WTTW-TV) does imaging work for the new station. He is also the host of the "Dinner Party" program each Saturday night at 6:00pm. Scott Adams' "Sounds of Brazil" show is heard each Saturday night at 10:00pm.

Rick O'Dell said today: "Twenty-seven years ago, WTMX was WCLR. And WCLR was the station that ushered in the Smooth Jazz era in Chicago when it premiered the Sunday Lite Brunch seven months before WNUA hit the air in 1987. So, with this affiliation between SmoothJazzChicago.net and WTMX HD2, Smooth Jazz has come full circle in Chicago. I'm grateful to Greg Solk, Jerry Schnacke and the crew at Hubbard Radio Chicago for the opportunity to create a unique partnership."

The news today has this popular Chicago web-stream also becoming a terrestrial radio station... at least for those who have HD radios.

The Smooth Jazz Chicago station on WTMX-HD2 replaces the Totally 80's Channel which was previously on that frequency. Instead, the Totally 80's Channel moves to sister-station, WILV-HD2. The previous station on WILV-HD2, the syndicated Voice of Russia, is now gone. Hubbard Radio Chicago's agreement with the syndicator expired at the start of this year.
