In today's News & Notes, we look at a radio reunion of Rick O'Dell & Ramsey Lewis, a return of Chris Base's BaseLine show, WBEZ gets social, trekking with Turano, Jeff "Smash" Murray and John Monds find themselves on the beach, and Ebony Magazine makes yet another high-profile hiring. That and more is just below...

* * At the next Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch live remote broadcast, host Rick O'Dell will be joined by his old friend and former WNUA co-worker, Ramsey Lewis. The Grammy Award winning jazz pianist, former Chicago radio morning host and Chicago native will be stopping by live & in person to reminisce with WLFM's O'Dell, talk about his new all-original CD "Songs From The Heart: Ramsey Plays Ramsey," as well as his upcoming June 18th Ravinia appearance. (Lewis is also the Artistic Director of Jazz at Ravinia.) The Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch takes place each Sunday morning at 10:00am at Rosebud Prime in downtown Chicago. Reservations can be made HERE. The broadcast can be heard live on 87.7 Chicago's Smooth Jazz.

* * Chris Base and his talk show "BaseLine" is making a comeback! The show, which made its debut in the spring of 2007 and previously aired on WKKC-FM & WVON-AM, can now be heard on the Internet radio station JammChicago.com. The show will be live from 10:00am-11:00am each Saturday morning, starting this Saturday, June 5th. Base's 20 year Chicago-area radio career has also had his booming voice on WLS, WGCI, WGRB, WBEE, and WWCA. Joining Chris Base as special correspondents will be former WGCI morning star Harold Lee Rush discussing news/current events/important issues, and Diane Hawkins covering entertainment news/pop culture.

* * Chicago Public Radio and "Radio M" are inviting fans to come down and visit the WBEZ studios, located at Navy Pier (848 E. Grand Ave., Chicago). It is the first WBEZ Social of the year and it will take place Wednesday June 9th from 6:00pm-9:30pm. They threw a few of these WBEZ Socials last year and they were a big hit, so they have brought it back again. The Socials allow the public to meet the station's programming and administrative staff, mingle with fellow public radio fans, and then enjoy a spectacular view of the Navy Pier fireworks from WBEZ's private terrace. Music will be provided by "Radio M's" Tony Sarabia. There will be beer provided by Goose Island and pizza provided by Piece Pizza. Best of all, the event is FREE.

* * The 25th Annual Lake Tour Bike Trek takes place on June 11, 12 & 13. The three-day bike trek is a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. One of the many participants on this event will be WGN Radio's "Elton" Jim Turano from the Garry Meier afternoon show. Jim will be bicycling 50 miles each of the three days to help raise funds and awareness, as part of the WGN Team. You can donate to "Elton" Jim's cause by visiting this link HERE and clicking on "Make a gift!" You can support or even join up with the WGN Team at this link HERE. WGN is hoping to raise $25,000 for the American Lung Association with this event. Your tax-deductible donation will go to support the nearly one million Chicagoland residents affected by various lung diseases. Plus, it will make "Elton" Jim smile.

* * Well, that didn't last long... Former WKSC Music Director/Assistant Program Director and midday personality Jeff Murray (aka "Smash," "Ditty," and "Smash Ditty"), who was forced out from Clear Channel Chicago's Kiss-FM in the spring or 2009 for budgetary reasons, is out of work once again. Just six months ago, Murray had found work as the Program Director of WIXX-FM in Green Bay, WI. As of this month, he has been forced out of work once again.

* * Another former Chicago radio personality has suddenly found himself "on the beach" also. John Monds, who at one time was a radio personality on Chicago's WAGO, WCKG, WILV and WVAZ (as the leader of the "Monds Squad" on V103), is now a free agent. For the last few years, Monds had been the Program Director and afternoon drive personality for Cumulus-owned WRRX-FM in Pensacola, FL. Budget cuts was given as the cause of his forced exit.

* * Earlier this week, Ebony Magazine announced the hiring of their new Editor-In-Chief, Amy DuBois Barnett. Today it was announced that the former White House social secretary and Chicago business executive, Desiree Rogers, has been hired as a special "corporate strategy" consultant for the magazine. Linda Johnson Rice, the CEO Johnson Publishing, which publishes Ebony Magazine, and Desiree Rogers are close, personal friends. Sometimes it helps to have the right friends in high places.
