WYCC-TV To Present 'A Special Evening With Buddy Guy'

Chicago PBS station WYCC-TV will be presenting a two-hour special, shining a spotlight on one of Chicago's greatest musicians and entertainers, Buddy Guy. Part concert, part interview, "WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy" will give viewers an up close and intimate view of Chicago's multi-Grammy Award-winning guitar great.

"WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy" will debut on April 18th, airing from 8:00pm-10:00pm.

The program features Guy performing in front of a live audience at his Chicago club, Buddy Guy's Legends, recorded just over two months ago during one of his annual January residencies. Guy performed some of his greatest hits from his almost 50 years of releasing albums, as well as from his latest album, "Rhythm and Blues."

Along with the live music, the special will have interview segments interspersed throughout. Buddy Guy sat down to talk with Robin Robinson, the WFLD-TV/FOX 32 contributor and former news anchor. In the interview segments, Robinson asks Guy about his storied and influential musical career, along with how he came to Chicago, Illinois from little Lettsworth, Louisiana.

As WYCC is a PBS station, it depends on periodic pledge drives for its operating revenue. There will indeed be pledge breaks in the "WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy" airing later this month. Viewers making donations will have the chance to gain a Buddy Guy autographed guitar and other Guy-autographed memorabilia.

"WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy" is kind of "teaser" for a new series which WYCC-TV will be premiering this fall, entitled "Buddy Guy's Legends Presents: The Chicago Blues." The series is scheduled to run 12 episodes.

Like April's Buddy Guy special, the upcoming new series combines live footage of blues artists performing on stage at Chicago's premier blues club, Buddy Guy's Legends, along with interviews of those artists talking about their lives and their music.

The following is a sneak peek at this fall's new series:

WYCC-TV and Buddy Guy's Legends are teaming up to help bring blues music to a wider audience, via its television signal.

For those that miss the initial airing of "WYCC Presents a Special Evening with Buddy Guy" on April 18th, the program will be repeated on April 19 at 4:00am, April 20th at midnight, April 26th at 8:00pm, and April 27th at 4:00pm.
