For years, Chicago's WSRB-FM, better known as Soul 106.3, would simulcast its programming on Rockford's WYRB-FM, also known as Soul 106.3, since they both transmit on the same FM frequency. Both stations are also owned by the Crawford Broadcasting Company. As of Wednesday, that will be changing.
Starting Wednesday, WYRB will be come Rockford's "Power 106," a virtual clone of Crawford's Power 92.3. It will continue to air the Tom Joyner Morning Show from 5:00am-9:00am, but them play the more contemporary Urban music, just as WPWX/Power 92 plays.
Since WYRB previously shared a website with WSRB, it will now gain its own website, although outside of the frequency on the logo, it will be almost the same as WPWX's.
Barbara McDowell will be the program and music director of Power 106.3. WYRB-FM is a 6,000 watt Class A FM station, which serves the far western to northwestern suburbs, that can be heard from DeKalb to Rockford.
