ABC 7's '190 North' Returns Sunday With New Special

WLS-TV/ABC 7 Chicago's famed weekend lifestyle show "190 North" makes its return on Sunday with another special. Of course, Janet Davies returns to host the program.

Chicago's historic "190 North" show was cancelled in March 2013 after over 14 years on ABC 7 and well over 530 original episodes aired. Although the cancellation was deeply disappointing to those who worked on the show and its many fans, WLS-TV promised to bring the show back via periodic specials, with two or three airing per year -- a promise the station has kept.

The latest "190 North" special will air on Sunday from 11:00pm-11:30pm. Janet Davies will host the show and remains its executive producer. Mark Nilsson and Ji Suk Yi will be contributors to this episode.

Among the highlight's of Sunday's episode include:

- A peek at some of the Broadway in Chicago shows coming this summer including Cyndi Lauper's "Kinky Boots," Gloria Estefan's "On Your Feet," "Pippin," "Once," "Rain," and the return of "Jersey Boys."

- A look at two new exhibits at the Chicago History Museum: "The Secret Lives of Objects" and "Chicago Styled."

- A tour of Roy's Furniture, the longtime Chicago family-run business on Sheffield Avenue.

- A sampling of some of Chicago's best Mexican food, such as "Camarones Ala Diabla" from Axcan Mexican Grill in Forest Park and various Jalisco steak preparations from the Lakeview neighborhood's Revolucion Steakhouse.

- A look at two newer candy stores in Chicagoland: Sugar Factory in Rosemont and Dylan's Candy Bar in downtown Chicago.

- A look at some newer juice bars in the city, including Harvest Juicery, the Real Good Juice Company, and Owen + Alchemy.

- A visit to The Plant, an indoor farming business incubator in Chicago.

"190 North" launched in July 1998, first as a summer test show, and then the following year, as a full-time, weekly program. The show has the distinction of being the longest running entertainment and lifestyle show in Chicago television history.

The guiding light behind the show since day one has been its host and executive producer, Janet Davies. An over 30-year veteran of the station, Janet Davies has been WLS-TV's feature and entertainment reporter for the 4:00pm newscasts, host of the station's many parade broadcasts, and the longtime co-host of ABC 7's top-rated New Year's Eve broadcasts. With "190 North," she found the perfect vehicle to showcase her charismatic personality, high-quality television production skills, and entertainment knowledge.

Davies co-created the show's name "190 North" from the address of the WLS-TV studios in Chicago: 190 N. State Street.
