Comcast SportsNet Chicago To Broadcast 2016 Arlington Million Horse Race

Arlington International Racecourse's signature race, The Grade I Arlington Million, will air on Comcast SportsNet Chicago on Saturday, August 13th from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The Arlington Million highlights the International Festival of Racing that includes all three of Illinois' Grade I races, joined by the Grade I Beverly D. Stakes and the Grade I Secretariat Stakes.

The prestigious horse race broadcast will be hosted by CSN Chicago/WMVP-AM host David Kaplan and former WBBM-TV sports anchor Howard Sudberry, who has been Arlington Park's Senior Director of Marketing and Communications since January 2011. They will be joined by Eddie Olczyk, the Chicago Blackhawks/NBC Sports announcer and horse racing expert. Additionally, Arlington Park's Marketing Manager and staff reporter Alyssa Ali will be delivering reports from the paddock and winner's circle.

This will be CSN Chicago's first year broadcasting the Arlington Million live. For the past five years, the race has been broadcast live on WGN-TV.

"We are very excited to be able to air this great event on the home of most of Chicago's professional sports teams," said Tony Petrillo, Arlington General Manager. "This is one of Chicagoland and Illinois' premier international sporting and daylong entertainment events and we are pleased to be able to capture the excitement on television for those that cannot attend in person."

Phil Bedella, Vice President and General Manager of CSN Chicago, added: "The Arlington Million is one the premier Thoroughbred races in the entire country and we couldn't be prouder to deliver this thrilling event to our viewing audience."

This Saturday will be the 34th running of the Arlington Million since it was first held in the summer of 1981. (There were no Arlington Millions run in either 1998 or 1999.) It is a Grade 1 race for thoroughbred horses of at least three years old, and raced over a distance of 1.25 miles on the turf at Arlington Park. As the name suggests, the race features a winning purse of one million dollars. The Arlington Million was the first thoroughbred race to ever offer a one million dollar purse.

Although races will be going on all day at Arlington Park Racetrack starting just after noon, including the $700,000 Beverly D. Stakes (which will be shown on CSN Chicago's broadcast via a tape delay), the $500,000 Secretariat Stakes, and the $400,000 American St. Leger, it is the spectacular final race that people from all over will be coming to see that day: The Arlington Million. The race is a grand celebration drawing horses, owners, trainers, jockeys, and fans from every part of the world. Held each August, the Arlington Million has been one of Chicagoland's greatest entertainment and sporting events.

For those who wish to experience the race in person, Arlington Park Racetrack is located at 2200 W. Euclid Avenue (at Wilke Road) in Arlington Heights, IL.

Well before the start of the Arlington Million, it will be discussed on Chicago radio. "Arlington Live," hosted by Sudberry and Ali, will be heard on WMVP-AM/ESPN 1000 from 8:00am-8:30am on Saturday. The hosts will have plenty of inside information about the big day at Arlington Park. Additionally, WRLR-LP 98.3's "The SportsCorner" will be broadcasting from Arlington Park on Saturday morning from 8:00am-10:00am. Rusty Silber, Pat Cameron, Ron Pecorini, Matt Rosenberg, and John Collin will talk about the Arlington Million and more.
