WDCB Adds WFMT's 'Sunday Jazz With Dee Alexander' Show

WDCB-FM 90.9/90.7 is adding a new two-hour jazz program to its weekend lineup: "Sunday Jazz with Dee Alexander." The new show, which is produced by the WFMT Radio Network in Chicago, will air Sundays from 8:00pm-10:00pm on WDCB-FM, with the debut happening on May 7th.

The show coming to WDCB-FM this weekend is the result of a new business partnership between WDCB and WFMT management. The WFMT Radio Network's Jazz Network is heard on stations in 28 states plus Puerto Rico and China. When "Sunday Jazz with Dee Alexander" debuts on WDCB-FM on Sunday, it will be the first programming from the Jazz Network to be made available on Chicago radio.

WFMT Radio Network Director Tony Macaluso stated: "Creating jazz radio programming for stations around the globe has long been an important part of the WFMT Radio Network's mission. Forging this new partnership with WDCB and the magnificent Dee Alexander underscores our belief that great jazz radio has a vibrant future in our hometown."

Highly-respected, Chicago-based jazz vocalist and educator Alexander will host the program. Alexander has been previous named as "Best Singer" (Chicago magazine) and "Jazz Entertainer of the Year" (Chicago Music Awards), as well as "Chicagoan of the Year in Jazz Award" (Chicago Tribune). Although famed for her jazz vocals, Alexander is also known for being equally adept at singing gospel, blues, neo-soul, rhythm-and-blues, and world music.

The world-renowned jazz singer is finishing up a tour of Italy on Saturday, before returning home to Chicago on Sunday. Alexander will be back in Europe later this month performing at the Made in Chicago Festival in Poznan, Poland.

Alexander's weekly radio program will offer a range of jazz artists, styles, and eras, as well as a mix of vocalists and instrumentalists. It will include the work of current jazz artists from around the world, as well as Chicago's own jazz talent.

WDCB Station Manager Dan Bindert said proudly: "We're ecstatic to have an artist of Dee Alexander's stature joining our radio lineup. Dee's wonderful voice and warm personality, combined with her unique insights and deep knowledge of the music -- that's an unbeatable combination for a jazz radio program! I know her fans and our listeners will be as excited as I am to hear her program every Sunday evening."
