Crain's Chicago Business Names New Publisher

Crain's Chicago Business made an announcement today on their website that Publisher David Blake will be retiring this year, after 29 years with the company, the last 10 of which he has spent as its Publisher. Replacing him will be David Snyder, who is currently the Associate Publisher for Crain's Chicago Business and a 27 year veteran of the company. Although Blake does not officially retire until December 31st, Snyder will take over as Publisher effective October 15th.

Snyder first joined the Crain's company in Washington, DC as a researcher in 1983. He moved to Chicago the following year as a reporter. He was named Editor of the publication in 1993, helping Crain's Chicago Business win numerous awards over the years that followed. In 2000, he was named General Manger for Crain's Interactive Division, helping to relaunch the paper's website into an continually updated business news source and being instrumental in the creation of their real estate news website. Snyder was named as Associate Publisher in 2004, taking on even more duties and oversight.

Outgoing Publisher David Blake joined Crain's in 1981 as a salesperson. He also worked his way up the company ladder, becoming Sales Manager, Advertising Director, Associate Publisher, and then named as Publisher in 2000.

Before he leaves the company, Blake will be instrumental in getting Crain's new health care-focused website & business launched. After his retirement from Crain's at the end of this year, Blake plans on starting up his own business, the New Center for Chicago Business History, a corporate consulting firm showing established companies the value of showcasing a their historical background.

Rance Crain, Crain's founder and Editor-in-Chief, said in today's statement: "David Blake has been an outstanding publisher, and we intend to have a long relationship with him, both as he develops new projects for Crain's and as he starts his own business. Dave Snyder has been involved in every facet of our business over the years. He is more than ready to assume the mantle."

Crain's Chicago Business was founded in 1978. It's owner, Crain Communications Inc., headquartered in Detroit, MI, publishes 29 other publications and manages dozens of business websites nationwide, in addition to its Chicago ones.
