WSCR's Terry Boers To Be Toasted On Thursday

WSCR-AM/670 The Score celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday. Since Terry Boers is one of the original Score hosts, he also celebrated his 25th anniversary at the station, as well. It will be his final anniversary there, as he will retire on Thursday afternoon. The station will be holding a special broadcast to honor the host called "Toast To Terry," airing Thursday from 1:00pm-6:00pm.

Chicagoans Turn To Their Televisions On New Year's Eve 2016/2017

With five New Year's Eve countdown broadcasts happening virtually simultaneously, the Chicago market had their televisions on to watch the clock strike midnight on this past Saturday night. Of the five broadcasts, three came from Chicago, while two were national. There was also a local comedy special, as well as a local music special happening at the same time. It was a busy night for special television shows and two of the Chicago broadcasts rang in decent ratings for their stations.

Kathy Voltmer Exits WDRV & Hubbard Radio Chicago

Beloved Chicago radio veteran Kathy Voltmer has been working in Chicago radio since 1986 and with WDRV-FM/97.1 The Drive since very soon after its inception over 15 years ago. As of this week, she is gone from WDRV-FM, gone from Hubbard Radio Chicago, and looking for her next opportunity in media.

Waddle, Silvy, Mully, Hanley, Boers, Bernstein Named Among Country's Top Local Sports Talkers

The newest issue of Radio Ink magazine, released this week, takes a look at the Top 35 local sports talk show hosts in the nation. It should come as no surprise that Chicago's local morning and afternoon sports talkers were listed quite high in the magazine's rankings.

JBTV's 28th Annual 'Safe Drive Live Music Marathon' Premieres Saturday

JBTV -- Chicago's longest-running television program dedicated to new, local, independent, rock, and alternative music and artists -- will once again be presenting its annual "Don't Drink and Drive" holiday special this year. The 28th annual special, which two years ago was renamed as the "JBTV Safe Drive Live Music Marathon" to better incorporate all forms of impaired and distracted driving, is as big as ever.

Is Another All-Sports Station Coming To The Chicago Market In 2017?

Chicagoans love their sports and sports talk on the radio. Because of that, a group of investors are taking serious looks into launching another all-sports radio station in the Chicagoland area in the first half of 2017. While this is not yet a definite plan, it now looks as if has a strong chance of happening.

ABC 7 To Broadcast Its 26th Annual Local New Year's Eve Countdown Special

For the past 25 years, WLS-TV/ABC 7 has shown a local countdown special in the hour before Midnight on December 31st, ringing in the New Year. This year, the tradition lives on as ABC 7 will air "Countdown Chicago 2017," hosted once again by Janet Davies and Mark Giangreco.

Andrew 'Finnegan' Hart Announces Exit From Radio

Former Chicago radio host Andrew Hart, who went by the on-air name of "Finnegan" while working in Chicago, announced he is exiting the radio industry so that he can "explore other opportunities." Hart had most recently been working for Entercom in San Francisco, hosting mornings in that market and voice-tracking other dayparts in various other markets.

WCIU-TV To Air Stand-Up Comedy Special On New Year's Eve

WCIU-TV/The U wants viewers to laugh their way into the new year. The station will air a 60-minute special on Saturday night entitled "Chicago's One Night Stand-Up," featuring 11 top comedians from the Chicagoland area each performing a comedic set.

WLIT-FM Keeping Its 2016 All-Christmas Format Through New Year's Eve

This year, WLIT-FM/93.9 MYfm flipped to all-Christmas music on November 10th. Traditionally, the station stops playing the Christmas music on the night of December 25th, switching back to its normal AC/Hot AC playlist on December 26th. Too often, Christmas enthusiasts complain that music naturally stops when the holiday ends. This year, WLIT-FM is extending its Christmas music for almost a week past Christmas.

WLS-FM's Tom O'Toole Reveals Cancer Scare

Chicago radio veteran Tom O'Toole wrote on his Facebook page today that in December 2015, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Luckily, this story has a happy ending as O'Toole has been declared cancer-free by doctors as of this week. Even more amazing is the fact that he was able to use his famous voice for work all year long during this scary ordeal.

Robert Murphy Exiting WLS-FM

One-time Chicago radio superstar Robert Murphy will be exiting WLS-FM this month as part of changes coming to the Classic Hits music station. Murphy is not being fired, but his contract with Cumulus Media is not being renewed. He had been heard on the station since November 11, 2013.

Final-Ever Boers & Bernstein Show To Air Thursday Afternoon

The final Boers & Bernstein radio show ever will take place on WSCR-AM/670 The Score this Thursday, December 22nd from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein have been partnered together on-air since 1999. Their over 17 years together makes them the longest running sports talk show in Chicago currently. That streak will end this week, though.
