Robert Feder Joins 'Time Out Chicago' Website

When media critic & columnist Robert Feder decided to leave his online home of Chicago Public Radio's Vocalo.org/WBEZ.org on November 23rd, he promised "I won't be leaving the daily media beat. I expect to make an announcement about my new online home soon." Earlier today, Robert Feder lived up to that promise, announcing that he has joined the Time Out Chicago website as its new media blogger.

WBBM-TV's Don Schwenneker To Exit Chicago Television

WBBM-TV's Don Schwenneker is getting ready to say goodbye to Chicago television and Chicago itself. He has accepted an offer to become a meteorologist at the ABC affiliate in Raleigh-Dunham, NC, WTVD-TV (ABC11). He begins there in February.

WUSN-FM Hires Jay Stone For Weekends & Fill-In

WUSN-FM, aka US99.5, has hired Jay Stone for Saturday mornings and occasional weekday fill-ins. His regular shift will be Saturdays from 10:00am-3:00pm. Stone started on the air this past weekend.

Chicago LPTV Station Sold

Liberman Broadcasting Inc. (aka LBI Media), the Burbank, CA-based media company that owns television and radio stations targeted toward Hispanic communities, is (now officially) moving into the Chicago market. Liberman has now closed on the purchase of Chicago's WESV-LP from Trinity Broadcasting Network Inc. The selling price, according to brokers Kalil & Co., was $1.25 million.

Beth Reynolds Exits WLIT-FM, Joins WILV-FM

If you are looking at WLIT-FM's list of on-air talents and see that the list is missing one name, there is a good reason for that. One of the last remaining live & local personalities at "The Lite" has exited today. Weekender Beth Reynolds has left WLIT-FM and joined WILV-FM, aka "Rewind 100.3," as a weekend personality and weekday fill-in personality.

Tribune Bankruptcy 'Circus' Continues -- Lawsuits; Voting; Randy Michaels Investigated; More

Creditors have recently called the Tribune Company bankruptcy proceedings a "four-ring circus," thanks in part to the contentious nature of the parties fighting for their lost money and for control of the media giant, as well as because of the four competing plans on how to restructure the company to exit bankruptcy. Things are getting even wilder and hotter under that "four-ring" big top. Just this week, new lawsuits are being filed, the judge is setting a voting deadline, former Tribune CEO Randy Michaels is being accused of destroying emails & data, and if all goes well, the bankruptcy could be done by next spring.

Former WBBM-AM General Manager William O'Donnell Passes Away

William O'Donnell, who was a longtime manager in Chicago radio, has passed away at the age of 88.

Confirmed: Tammie Souza Returning To Chicago

According to a report from the Chicago Tribune's Phil Rosenthal on this past Wednesday, former Chicago meteorologist Tammie Souza has been in talks with WFLD-TV about returning to Chicago television. It now looks like that will be happening sooner than later. Eric Deggens, the media columnist for the St. Petersburg Times, has confirmed that Tammie Souza is indeed heading back to Chicago and leaving her Florida positions as Chief Meteorologist at Tampa/St. Petersburg CBS affiliate, WTSP-TV.

WFLD-TV Chooses To Not Renew Mark Saxenmeyer's Contract

Over the last two years, since Carol Fowler joined the station as News Director (February 2009) and Mike Renda joined as General Manager (September 2009), almost all veteran staffers of WFLD-TV's newsroom have had their contracts not renewed. The latest station veteran to be cleared out is Special Projects Reporter Mark Saxenmeyer.

Mancow Cancels Syndicated 'The Mancow Show'; Begins 'The Mancow Experience'

Former Chicago radio personality, Erich "Mancow" Muller has canceled his Chicago-based syndicated daily talk program "The Mancow Show" and will instead launch a revamped version of the show called "The Mancow Experience." The new show will be more focused entertainment news & information and less focused on conservative politics and controversy.

The 'Mike North Entertainment Network' Debuts

For many days, Mike North was promising a brand new website and the debut of the "Mike North Entertainment Network." The new & improved website was supposed to launch today, December 6th. Instead, Mike North merely added one new page to his already existing site, containing short YouTube videos featuring North behind a microphone in his home office.
