ABC 7 To Broadcast Its 26th Annual Local New Year's Eve Countdown Special

For the past 25 years, WLS-TV/ABC 7 has shown a local countdown special in the hour before Midnight on December 31st, ringing in the New Year. This year, the tradition lives on as ABC 7 will air "Countdown Chicago 2017," hosted once again by Janet Davies and Mark Giangreco.

Andrew 'Finnegan' Hart Announces Exit From Radio

Former Chicago radio host Andrew Hart, who went by the on-air name of "Finnegan" while working in Chicago, announced he is exiting the radio industry so that he can "explore other opportunities." Hart had most recently been working for Entercom in San Francisco, hosting mornings in that market and voice-tracking other dayparts in various other markets.

WCIU-TV To Air Stand-Up Comedy Special On New Year's Eve

WCIU-TV/The U wants viewers to laugh their way into the new year. The station will air a 60-minute special on Saturday night entitled "Chicago's One Night Stand-Up," featuring 11 top comedians from the Chicagoland area each performing a comedic set.

WLIT-FM Keeping Its 2016 All-Christmas Format Through New Year's Eve

This year, WLIT-FM/93.9 MYfm flipped to all-Christmas music on November 10th. Traditionally, the station stops playing the Christmas music on the night of December 25th, switching back to its normal AC/Hot AC playlist on December 26th. Too often, Christmas enthusiasts complain that music naturally stops when the holiday ends. This year, WLIT-FM is extending its Christmas music for almost a week past Christmas.

WLS-FM's Tom O'Toole Reveals Cancer Scare

Chicago radio veteran Tom O'Toole wrote on his Facebook page today that in December 2015, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Luckily, this story has a happy ending as O'Toole has been declared cancer-free by doctors as of this week. Even more amazing is the fact that he was able to use his famous voice for work all year long during this scary ordeal.

Robert Murphy Exiting WLS-FM

One-time Chicago radio superstar Robert Murphy will be exiting WLS-FM this month as part of changes coming to the Classic Hits music station. Murphy is not being fired, but his contract with Cumulus Media is not being renewed. He had been heard on the station since November 11, 2013.

Final-Ever Boers & Bernstein Show To Air Thursday Afternoon

The final Boers & Bernstein radio show ever will take place on WSCR-AM/670 The Score this Thursday, December 22nd from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein have been partnered together on-air since 1999. Their over 17 years together makes them the longest running sports talk show in Chicago currently. That streak will end this week, though.

Univision To Launch New Sports Radio Network, Coming To WRTO-AM in 2017

Univision Communications announced on Monday the formation of a new, national radio network set to debut early next year, named Univision Deportes Radio. The Chicago radio home for Univision Deportes Radio will be Univision-owned WRTO-AM 1200.

WLS-AM Hires Sirott & Murciano, Alters All Daypart Shifts

WLS-AM 890 is expected to announce this week the addition of a new midday show and the pushing back of all of its weekday shifts by one hour. The new hires in middays, not surprisingly, are frequent WLS-AM guest hosts Bob Sirott and Marianne Murciano.

WGN-TV Names Tahman Bradley As Weekend Evening News Anchor & Political Reporter

Chicago native Tahman Bradley has been promoted by Tribune Broadcasting to the roles of news anchor for WGN-TV's Saturday and Sunday newscasts at 5:00pm and 9:00pm, as well as being named as the station's political reporter. The promotions are effective immediately.

CSN Chicago To Replay All 11 Cubs Postseason Victories

CSN Chicago is giving Cubs fans a Christmas/Hannukah gift a few days early with five straight days of special rebroadcasts. Entitled "Chicago Cubs: This Was The Year," CSN will be re-airing all 11 of the Cubs' 2016 post-season victories in order, including the team's World Series Championship game. The Cubs' championship parade and rally will also be rebroadcast. Additionally, brand new footage with Cubs personnel and CSN hosts will be included, as the station looks back at the incredible Cubs year that was 108 years in the making.

WGN-TV To Air Cubs 2016 Review Program 'Twas The Season'

As so many radio and television stations are doing during the year-end holidays, WGN-TV will be looking back at the 2016 Major League Champion Chicago Cubs incredible 2016 season. Next week, the station will air a two-hour special entitled "'Twas the Season: The 2016 Cubs Year in Review."

WDCB-FM 90.9 is partnering with T & JJ's Banquet Hall in Maywood for a new monthly music showcase, hosted by WDCB-FM weekend personality Sammie Jay. Entitled "Sammie Jay's Soul Blues Party," the live music event will feature soulful blues singers on the third Wednesday of each calendar month.
