Wayne Besen Gives Statement Regarding His Surprise Release From WCPT

As previously reported here, WCPT-AM/FM, aka Chicago's Progressive Talk, released afternoon host Wayne Besen after he finished his radio show on Friday. Late Saturday afternoon, Besen gave a statement about his forced exit from the radio station he has been working with for the past three years.

WCPT-AM/FM Releases Wayne Besen, Hires Ben Joravsky

WCPT-AM/FM, aka Chicago's Progressive Talk, has made a change in its afternoon lineup. After he finished his radio show on Friday, weekday host Wayne Besen was released by the station, effective immediately. Starting Monday, the new 2:00pm-5:00pm weekday host will be longtime Chicago journalist Ben Joravsky.

ESPN 1000 Announces Its Extensive Coverage Plans For The Cubs 2017 Season

WMVP-AM/ESPN 1000 may not be a flagship radio home for any local baseball team, but as the only Chicago radio station owned by sports broadcasting giant ESPN, there will be plenty of baseball talk heard on AM 1000 this year. Special attention will be given to the World Champion Chicago Cubs, with weekly appearances throughout the 2017 MLB season by some current and former Cubbies.

Chicago Public Media CEO Seeks Donations & Public Support Due To Trump's New Public Radio-Killing Budget

Chicago Public Media (CPM) President and CEO Goli Sheikholeslami sent an email out to all past WBEZ-FM donors and to those on the radio station's mailing list Thursday morning. The email sought donations for WBEZ-FM. While emails asking listeners to donate to public radio stations are fairly commonplace, especially during their periodic pledge drives, this particular email had more of an urgency and a special message behind it.

CSN Chicago Hires David DeJesus As Cubs Pre/Postgame Co-Host

CSN Chicago has announced that former Chicago Cubs standout David DeJesus has been named as the new studio analyst for CSN's Cubs pre-game and post-game shows. Beginning next month with the start of the Cubs' regular season, DeJesus will work alongside longtime Cubs pre-game/post-game host David Kaplan for CSN's slate of 81 scheduled Cubs game broadcasts for the 2017 season.

ESPN 1000 Rearranges Schedule, Flips 'Kap & Co' and 'Carmen & Jurko' Times

WMVP-AM/ESPN 1000 is making a big change with its weekday lineup effective next month. The late morning/midday show with Carmen DeFalco and John "Jurko" Jurkovic will be trading places with midday show "Kap & Co." with David Kaplan. This change will begin on April 3rd.

WRTO-AM Flips To Univision Deportes 1200 AM

With little fanfare, Univision-owned WRTO-AM 1200 flipped from a Spanish language all-talk station with a few sports broadcasts, to a Spanish language all-sports station with a few talk shows. As of this past Thursday, WRTO-AM is now branded as Univision Deportes 1200 AM.

Former WMVP-AM Program Director Promoted To Head Of ESPN Radio Programming

Justin Craig, an ESPN Radio lifer who served as the Program Director for WMVP-AM/ESPN 1000 for four years, just received a huge promotion. It was announced on Monday that Craig has been bumped up by ESPN to the national role of Senior Director of Programming and Operations for the ESPN Radio network.

WGCI-FM To Host Another Town Hall Meeting About Gun Violence

For the past year, WGCI-FM/107.5 WGCI has been holding a series of periodic town hall-style meetings that discuss the ongoing gun violence problem in Chicago's urban neighborhoods. Tomorrow, WGCI-FM will host another of these open community meetings entitled "Street Talk: Stop The Bleeding."

WVON-AM Adds Political Commentator Maze Jackson To Its Morning Show

WVON-AM 1690 announced Thursday afternoon that political commentator and strategist Maze Jackson will be joining the urban talk radio station's morning show. Jackson, who has long been a regular contributor and guest to WVON-AM's shows, will begin in his new co-hosting role on April 3rd.

JBTV Launches GoFundMe Campaign To Upgrade Studios

There have already been a few documentary films and specials created about the remarkable 2016 season of the Chicago Cubs. However, CSN Chicago has created a new film that focuses solely on the 2016 World Series Game 7, with its storybook ebbs, flows, and ending, handing the Chicago Cubs their first world championship in 108 years. This game has been called the greatest Game 7 in professional sports history.
